Catching Up

Today Kaitlynn, MawMaw and I went to the Zoo. We had a few passes to use on our membership that expires today (and they aren't transferable to the renewed membership). We rode the train as soon as we got there. On the ride, we saw an old friend of my mom's (Nonie, Ron and their 4 grand daughters), so we got off to visit with them. We went in to see the penguins together. The girls are all close to Kaitlynn's age. She was shy or maybe intimidated at first. But by the end of talking with them, the girls were hugging and standing close to each other. Nonie and Ron's youngest son was my first boyfriend! Ha ha!
Kaitlynn rode the carousel with MawMaw.
Kaitlynn wanted to see the monkeys.
After lunch, we went into Build-A-Bear and MawMaw bought Kaitlynn this monkey. Kaitlynn named her George. Yes, the monkey is a girl and her name is George.
We had to take George to see the monkeys.
Then Kaitlynn decided that George needed socks. So we went back to Build-A-Bear to get socks, panties and sunglasses. George is one stylish monkey!
We went into the Bird House per Kaitlynn's request.
We saw the lion and the lioness (who was laying in the tree).
Kaitlynn was in a "mood" all day - very whiny and most things seemed to be a battle. I think I am getting a sinus infection and felt nauseous all day. It wasn't the best day to deal with a whiny child.

Wine and Cheese

Saturday, Dave and Kaitlynn went to the Zoo. Dave said they had a great time and Kaitlynn came home asleep.

That evening we went to Eileen and Stephen's for a wine and cheese night. Emily, Christopher, Ella, Tara, Jonathon, and Bailey also came. Every couple brought a wine (or grape juice). It was great sampling different wines, wines that we normally wouldn't buy. Eileen had an excellent spread of food. She is such a great hostess.
Kaitlynn and Gabe having a quiet moment - reading books.
Kaitlynn entertaining Jonathon.
This is the only picture I got of the 4 kids together -not a very good one.
Merci was as cute as ever and I was so excited to hold her.
Kaitlynn, Bailey and Gabe were laughing so hard and having such a good time, I had to take a video.

Friends and Family

Friday, Kaitlynn, Olivia and I met Eileen, Gabe and Merci at the Zoo. We went into the Children's Zoo first.
Kaitlynn and Gabe had fun playing "leap frog"! They also found some mud puddles to play in and get really dirty.
We went into River's Edge, where Lisa, Brendan and Molly met up with us for lunch.
After River's Edge, Eileen, Gabe and Merci went home. Lisa, Brendan, Molly, Kaitlynn, Olivia and I stayed to see the bears and penguins.
Kaitlynn's shorts were so dirty from the mud puddle, but at least she had fun!
It was great seeing Lisa and Brendan and meeting Molly. Kaitlynn and I met Lisa and Brendan at Kangaroo Kids when we attending the Nursing Moms Group. Molly was added to the family in April. I can't believe how big our kiddos are getting.
Friday evening, MawMaw, Dave, Kaitlynn and I went to my brother and SIL's for dinner. It was great catching up with them and seeing the kids. We brought them a bunch of tomatoes from our garden because our window sill is totally full. We had a great time drinking margaritas and beer and dinner was great. Kaitlynn loves Sissy (my niece) and would not leave her alone. She also likes Nate (my nephew), but was a little shy because he had 2 friends over. She is shy of older boys.

Library and Avon

Thursday after Olivia left, Kaitlynn and I went to the library. I want to get back into doing crafts and things at home, so I reserved a bunch of books from the library. I like to do things in themes, such as holidays coming up.
I reserved books for Labor Day, Grandparents' Day and apples / apple picking.
Here were Kaitlynn's picks.
This was Kaitlynn's idea of getting ready for bed. She put her pull-up on her head.

I love this Home Essentials Jewelry Organizer for Kaitlynn's hair accessories.
I am also in love with my new bag - The Butler Basics Organizer. Everything is so much easier to find and I am still able to carry all the same stuff.

MawMaw's Last Day of Vacation

Wednesday, MawMaw, Kaitlynn, Olivia and I went to the Zoo. Kaitlynn loves the new double stroller and so do I.
We met up with Emily, Ella, Bene and Logan after they got out of Zoomagination Station.

Kaitlynn and Ella checking out the snake eggs.
The baby elephants were out. It was so cute to see them playing together.
Kaitlynn held Bene's hand the rest of the way through River's Edge. She had Bene playing with her at the waterfall outside River's Edge.
Ella, Logan, Kaitlynn and Bene
Logan loved playing in the water. Kaitlynn loved jumping with Bene.
They all had a great time playing in the water.
Ella liked the double stroller. I think Emily is going to have to invest in one.
After lunch, Kaitlynn rode the carousel with MawMaw.
Kaitlynn and MawMaw took a long nap after we got home.

Getting Lucky

Tuesday, Kaitlynn, Olivia and I went to lunch with MawMaw. After Olivia went home, MawMaw and I gathered some baby stuff from around the house and took it to Kangaroo Kids. They bought a good portion of the stuff and I totally got lucky. As MawMaw was carrying in a box of clothes, she saw a double stroller (Sit n Stand LX) at the counter and asked Sierra (the owner) if it was for sale. Sierra said it was. It had just been brought in that morning or afternoon. We checked it out and Kaitlynn was in love. I used the money from the things they bought to help pay for it. We also found some super cute fall and winter outfits that they just put out.

We went to Once Upon A Child with the rest of the stuff, but they only bought 2 things. They claimed the stuff had stains or too old of tags. If you know me, you know the stuff didn't have stains. I am a fanatic about stains. Dave and my mom got so irritated with me about stains on Kaitlynn's clothes. I will wash them for 2 months straight just to get a tiny little stain out. I probably won't waste my time with OUAC again. I'll just stick with Kangaroo Kids.

Sued by your MIL

On the Today Show this morning, Al Roker interviewed Sunda Croonquist, a comedian who is being sued by her MIL (apparently SIL and BIL, too) for being the butt of her jokes (defamation of character). Sunda has been telling these jokes for 10 years and they are just now suing! You know it's all about the money or they are just trying to get her out of the family. Well, I don't think it's going to get her out of the family considering Sunda's husband's law firm is defending her against his family. It may tear the family apart, but sometimes I don't think people care about that. Sunda talked about how this has affected her 2 daughters. I don't think the MIL has taken into account what this is doing / going to do to her granddaughters.

You can watch the interview by clicking on the link below:

or read about it here:

In a poll, the majority of people thought that the MIL had no lawsuit. On MomLogic, one commenter said "Wow! I guess the MIL doesn’t care that she’s just lost her son and grandkids." Read more:

What do you think? Why do MILs take such offense to their DILs? Why do MILs think they have a right to chose their son's partners / spouses? I think when an MIL or ILs (for that matter) dislike a person's spouse, they might as well just say good-bye to any relationship they could have had with their child or grandchild(ren). You can't try to separate a family. It just doesn't work.

Monday night after dinner at El Nopal, Kaitlynn, Dave, MawMaw and I were in the backyard. The 2 neighbor girls that live behind us were out. Kaitlynn was so excited to see them and they were excited to see her. The younger girl (who is just a month or two older than Kaitlynn) calls her "Clayton" because she can't say Kaitlynn. It's so cute. The older girl is about 5 and is so nice to Kaitlynn. Anyway, Kaitlynn played in their yard with them while I talked to their mom. She is very nice and friendly. She was talking about how they recently started a neighborhood group and invited us to join them. I can't believe we have lived in this house for over 5 years and we are just now getting to know our neighbors. I think it helps when you have kids. I have really enjoyed the friendships we've acquired because of Kaitlynn and hope they continue. Dave and I are really excited to meet some more of the neighbors.

I have to say, until Sunday night, I really didn't know how people became addicted to Facebook. I have been on Facebook for a while now. I rarely check it, unless I get an email about a friend request, comment or message. I started uploading more pictures to my Facebook page recently and it's kind of fun sharing those with people that I know, but don't see often (or haven't seen since grade school). Sunday night I also got the chance to catch up with a few friends that I hadn't talked to in a while by using the chat feature. I was able to chat with like 4 or 5 people at the same time. I also like that I get immediate feedback on stuff - like pictures, comments that I've left, etc. I wouldn't say that I am addicted to Facebook now, but I have a new appreciate for it. At least, now, I understand how people can get addicted.

A Real Mother

I don't know what Dave and I would do without my mom. She helps us out so much. Monday, she watched Kaitlynn for me and then came over to help me start getting the house back in order. For the last month, I have been sick on a weekly, almost daily basis and it's been hard to keep up with the house. The house isn't perfect, but it looks so much better than it did. Thank you mom! Now, I just hope I start feeling better.

Kaitlynn's 2 1/2 Birthday

Sunday we didn't do much. I was looking at pictures on the computer from this year. Kaitlynn saw some of her birthday party in February and said that she wanted a birthday and a cake. She kept saying "I like cake." We remembered that it was her 1/2 birthday, so Dave took her out to get a birthday cake. They settled on a cookie cake.
We used a "1" birthday candle because I couldn't find the "2". She didn't like us singing "Happy Birthday" to her. Not sure if it was our voices or the fact that we had the wrong candle on her cake. She normally likes for us to sing that song to her. As a matter of fact, she had Dave singing it to her earlier this week during bath time.
