Kaitlynn's Choice

Tonight Kaitlynn and I went to dinner with MawMaw at Steak 'n Shake and then ran some errands. When we were at the gas station Kaitlynn saw a Steak 'n Shake next door and told us that's what she wanted for dinner. She said she wanted a shake. So we went with her choice. Of course, she got her shake but didn't drink it. She didn't eat either. But what's new?

Strep? I Hope Not.

Sunday night I started feeling so sick. I had a horrible headache and was very nauseous. Monday Kaitlynn and I missed the MomsLikeMe.com playdate at The Magic House because I still wasn't feeling well and Kaitlynn was sleeping so peacefully. Tuesday I woke up with a red eye. My throat was hurting worse than it had been this past week. Since I was still feeling bad today, I called the doctor. They thought maybe I had strep throat, and wanted me to come in for a throat culture. Everything looked clear, though. They went ahead and did a throat culture because I am having trouble swallowing. They gave me a prescription for antibiotics and said to drink plenty of liquid and get lots of rest. It's kind of difficult to drink anything right now because of my throat, but getting lots of rest is going to be the biggest problem, considering I have a 2 1/2 year old, provide childcare Tuesday through Friday and have other obligations.

Last Greek Festival of the Year

Sunday evening Dave, Kaitlynn, MawMaw and I went to the Greek Festival. We look forward to these festivals as we love the food (deserts included). Unfortunately, we got there late and they had closed the kids corner early, as well as the market. But we still got to enjoy great food, music and dancing.

Room with a Purpose

Saturday night I organized the kitchen cabinets and pantries, cleaned off the counters and got the kitchen back into order. Saturday night and into Sunday morning MawMaw, Dave and I stayed up moving the house around. For too long one of our rooms has gone without a purpose. We never even knew what to call this room. Was it the living room, the sitting room, the den? We referred to it as the room with the fireplace or the middle room. We never really used it. The cats (well, Tiger mainly) took over the room and used the loveseat as his thrown. Since Tiger has passed away, it was just empty. There was no purpose. So, MawMaw came up with a great idea! Why not turn that room into our dining room? Currently we were using the kitchen (which is a decent size) as a kitchen and dining room. It was getting pretty crowded. So we thought MawMaw's idea was great and we were open to trying it out. I had thought about using that room for a dining room before, but just couldn't envision it. MawMaw said it might take time getting used to it, but we loved it immediately. Take a look!

Parties in the Park

Friday September 25th Dave, Kaitlynn, MawMaw and I went to Parties in the Park. Kaitlynn had a great time riding a pony named Clarabell, sliding, climbing in the inflatables, bouncing and being wild. She also enjoyed several rainbow snowcones - one before dinner and one after dinner!

Botanical Garden Children's Garden

Wednesday, September 23rd Dave, Kaitlynn, Olivia and I went to the MomsLikeMe.com playdate at Botanical Garden - Childrens Garden. We had a great time. We met up with Trisha, Kylie, Emily and Ella. Kaitlynn had fun sliding, climbing and playing in the fountains. She also loved the penguin balloon SammyJ made for her.

Happy Autumn / Fall

Tuesday the 22nd - the first day of fall. I love fall! It is my favorite season. I love the leaves changing colors and the cooler temperatures. I look forward to drinking coffee and hot tea and eating chili and soups.

Not in line with the first day of fall, but an accomplishment of Kaitlynn's on the 22nd was that she pooped in the potty. She has done this once before, but is struggling with it. Her reward for pooping in the potty was "soda." Dave went to Trader Joe's and got the "healthiest" soda (is that possible?) Kaitlynn was so excited. She was dancing all over the house. It was super cute!

Later that evening, Dave met me at the ECC for APPLES to ZUCCHINI Healthy Meals for Happy Kids seminar. It was presented by a St. Louis Children’s Hospital Dietician. We got some great information. The main thing discussed was portion size, which is a very important thing. The portion size for a 1-2 year old is very different than that of a 3-5 year old and a 6+ year old.

We had to drop one of our cars off at the shop because it needed new brakes. So Kaitlynn and I were without a car. Thankfully Dave was on vacation (although he still had classes).

Playground Pizzazz and the New Walmart

Monday the 21st Dave, Kaitlynn and I went to the ECC for the Playground Pizzazz. We ran into Tara and Bailey there. It was such a hot day. The girls were so sweaty. Kaitlynn did well with telling us she needed to use the potty. We saw her P.A.T. Educator, Amy, there and I talked with a lady I used to work with.

Afterwards, we picked MawMaw up from work. We went shopping. Kangaroo Kids was one of our stops. We also visited the new Walmart in our area. It is huge! I can't wait to go back. We ran into Tara, Jonathon and Bailey there. Kaitlynn and Bailey ran around the grocery isles for awhile.

Grant's Farm

Sunday the 20th, we were supposed to meet some friends at Grant's Farm, but it was raining in the morning, so we canceled. Later on it cleared up, so Dave, Kaitlynn and I went. We had a great time. Kaitlynn enjoyed a snowcone while Dave and I enjoyed the samples of beer. We were so excited to get to sample a new product coming out on October 5th (which is a great day - my dad's birthday). Bud Light is launching a wheat beer and it is awesome! I love sampling new products before they are on the market. I recommend everyone trying this product out. I know we will definitely be buying it on October 5th.

Zoo and Eckert's

Friday Dave, Kaitlynn, Olivia and I went to the Zoo. Dave and I were a little nervous about taking Kaitlynn out, since she was only on day 4 of potty training. Kaitlynn did awesome! She was a little unsure of using the big potty at first, but eventually was fine with it.

The Haunted Hayride was definitely not kid / family friendly. It was way too scary for the younger kids. Eckert's needs to either make it non-scary or change the age range for the hayride.
Kaitlynn did such an awesome job all day with using the potty. She didn't like the porta-potties at Eckert's, but who does? We are so proud of her!

Potty Training Adventure

Tuesday, we started the potty training experience. Thankfully Dave was on vacation because I was also babysitting Olivia. The first few hours were full of cleaning up pee and changing panties. Kaitlynn would tell us she had to go potty or that she was peeing (but would pee in her panties before getting to the potty). She was super excited about her big girl panties and I think just wanted to get a new pair of panties on. Each time she would run to her drawer and say "These are so cute. Oh thank you." The coolness / newness of the different big girl panties wore off thankfully (after a few hours) and she continued telling us when she had to go potty, but holding it until we made it to the bathroom. She did have a few "accidents" and almost always told us she needed to use the potty. Kaitlynn stayed dry through her nap and bedtime! She woke up once during the night to use the potty.

Wednesday (day 2 of our potty training adventure) went better than the first day. Miss Amy (P.A.T. Educator) came for her first visit of the school year. Kaitlynn enjoyed having her visit. It went really well. They talked about shapes, colors, counting, matching and animals. All things Kaitlynn is familiar with. Kaitlynn did have an "accident" while Miss Amy was over. I think it was due to her excitement about Miss Amy being over and she just forgot. Kaitlynn wasn't too sure of pooping on the potty. We tried to get her to sit on the potty, but she just couldn't. We let her poop in her panties and then had her sit on the potty and pretended like she finished pooping on the potty. She said her poop "looked like a turtle." What? Funny girl! Later that evening I called Kaitlynn "babe." She said "I not a baby." I said "I know, I called you babe not baby." She said "My name Kaitlynn." I got a big kick out of that. Kaitlynn continued to stay dry through her nap and bedtime. She didn't even wake up to go potty throughout the night.

Thursday (day 3) went well. Kaitlynn continued telling us when she had to use the potty. She was still unsure of pooping in the potty, but that will come in time. She stayed dry during her nap and bedtime.

The 3 days were very intense. We are not used to staying home for 3 days in a row. We definitely had "cabin fever." As rewards for using the potty, we did a daily sticker sheet. Kaitlynn enjoyed putting the stickers on the sheet each time she used the potty. Kaitlynn also called MawMaw, Aunt Neese and cousin Hanna to brag to them about being a big girl. For staying dry during her first nap, she got a Halloween flashlight and a pumpkin flashing necklace. For completing her bedtime routine chart (and basically staying dry all night) the first and second nights, she got Halloween pajamas. The third night she got a package of Halloween panties. I am so thankful this worked in 3 days and that we didn't have to change any bedsheets! I am also so proud of my big girl for doing so well with learning to use the potty.

We Are Protected

Monday, Kaitlynn and I got our flu shots from her pediatrician's office. Kaitlynn was such a big girl. It really helps when I explain beforehand what is going to happen. She does well with prediction and knowing what my expectations are. Since she did so well, she got to chose what she wanted to do afterwards. She chose to go to McDonald's (and play at the playland). Tara and Bailey met us there. For some reason (maybe the flu shot), Kaitlynn was super whiny most of the time at McDonald's. But I think Bailey and her still had a good time.

We went to MawMaw's preschool after playing at McDonald's. It was so funny in the car ride on the way to the preschool, Kaitlynn heard me singing to "Your so vain" and started singing to it. We ran errands to get ready for potty training (more to come on that adventure).

Happy Grandparent's Day PawPaw Dado

Dad,
I will never forget everything you did to help us prepare for Kaitlynn's arrival. You were so full of emotion when Dave and I told you that you were going to be a grandpa. You celebrated with us after the 20 week ultrasound when we found out we were having a girl. You helped us get the basement ready before her birth. You helped us with the nursery and putting the crib together. You met us at the hospital when I was supposed to be induced (little did we know I was already in labor). You waited all night at the hospital until Kaitlynn was born. You were there for over 10 hours. You didn't leave the hospital until you got to meet your new beautiful granddaughter. You understood that when you first saw Kaitlynn, I just couldn't give her up for anyone to hold. You waited to hold her until you came back a few hours later. You helped us get her ready for her newborn pictures. You helped us home from the hospital. You came over almost everyday to bond with Kaitlynn and to give me / us a "break" and some adult conversation. You were there for so many of Kaitlynn's firsts - rolling over, going to a restaurant, sitting in a high chair, illness, taking steps, seeing and playing on the beach (vacation), ear infection, and so much more. I wish you could be here to see more of her firsts. To see who she is now. To see how much she has grown. You would be so proud of her. She is so amazing. I think she remembers you. She talks about you. She knows who you are when she sees a picture of you. Sometimes when she sees your picture, she gets teary-eyed. She makes some of the same faces you used to make. She is an amazing little girl. Please keep watch of her as she lives life here on earth. Always be with her. Until we are together again,
Love always and forever.
You will never be forgotten.
Happy Grandparent's Day to the world's best grandfather!

Manchester Homecoming

Sunday MawMaw, Kaitlynn and I cleaned house while Dave mowed the lawn. Kaitlynn played with the neighbor girl, Mya. Aunt Neese came over to keep Kaitlynn busy while we cleaned, but Kaitlynn was already out playing with Mya.

Later we went to the Manchester Homecoming. We visited and talked with the EMS & Fire Department where Kaitlynn got a cute little stuffed animal, a bag of popcorn and helmet. We went to the Kid's Corner, but they were getting ready to close up. Kaitlynn got a coloring book, coloring page, some beads and pipe cleaners to make a bracelet and necklace with later. We voted on the cutest pet. We ran into our neighbors and Kaitlynn was so excited to hang out with the girls. We had a great time, except for at the end when Kaitlynn was on a slide with Mya and decided she wasn't going to slide down. She grabbed the side and was hanging off of it. Mya's grandma jumped up on the slide to help Kaitlynn down. It was an awful and scary moment.

Kaitlynn, MawMaw and I attended Barney's Sprouterrific Playdate at the Galleria Mall. Kaitlynn did great meeting Barney. She wasn't afraid of him at all. She also met Barney's new friend Chica and did a weather report with her. It was so awesome! Kaitlynn went up all by herself to do the weather report. She answered Kelly's questions and talked into the microphone very well. I was so proud of her. What a big girl! Maybe she should be on commercials, like people always tell us.

Playdate with Brayden

Thursday Kaitlynn, MawMaw, Olivia and I met MawMaw Tommie and Brayden at Denny's for breakfast. After breakfast, we took the kids to McDonald's to play in the play area. The McDonald's we went to had an outside playplace, which was pretty neat.

As we were leaving MawMaw Tommie and Brayden, Kaitlynn said she wanted a kiss from Brayden. I told her she could blow him a kiss, but that we didn't kiss our friends. Her favorite reply is "why??" She said Brayden was her boyfriend. Silly girl!

80's Girl at Heart

Wednesday after Olivia went home, Kaitlynn and I went to MawMaw's. After running some errands, we went to dinner at Applebee's. They were playing 80's music and Kaitlynn was dancing like crazy. She loved the music. A girl after my own heart!
She was dancing on the chair and was being super cute.

On the way home, Kaitlynn said "I want a cheeseburger. Cheeseburger where are you? I want you now." Silly girl!

Apple Picking on Labor Day

Monday for Labor Day, Dave, Kaitlynn, MawMaw and I went to Eckert's for the Barnyard Olympics. We didn't see the Barnyard Olympics, but had a great time in the Country Store (sampling foods and apple cider), eating lunch, riding the tractor to the apple fields, picking apples (and eating them), playing in the kid's area (feeding the goats, petting the Wallaby and camel, riding the pony, playing putt putt and bouncing) and eating custard. I didn't get to enjoy the custard because I started feeling really bad and we had to call it a day. But all in all, we had a good day.

Kaitlynn's Funnies and Other Randomness

Kaitlynn likes to call me "stinkerbutt". I called her this one day and it stuck with her.

Tonight after Kaitlynn got off the phone with MawMaw she said "I love her sooo much!"

Before bed, daddy made Kaitlynn some popcorn. Kaitlynn was standing on her bed and fell into the popcorn bowl. Total Chris Farley moment!

She has a great memory. She will remind me of when I got mad at this and that or when we did this or that. I don't think she forgets a thing.

Yesterday at the Greek Festival, we shared the table we were sitting at with an older couple. Kaitlynn was kind of bashful / shy of them at first. The lady kept smiling at Kaitlynn and made sure Kaitlynn got some beads that were being handed out to the "audience" during the Greek Folk dancing. When they got up to leave, Kaitlynn said "she's pretty." I think it is so cool that she associates beauty with the way someone treats her. Beauty is on the inside!

Kaitlynn knows how to manipulate. One day she wanted to go somewhere and I told her we would go after I got ready. She kept getting into trouble, so I told her that we weren't going if she kept it up. She came in the bathroom while I was getting ready and said "you are so pretty." She will randomly come up to me and tell me that I am pretty or beautiful. I love it!

Sometimes when you tell her you love her, she says "I know that!"

I also love how when you ask her a question and the answer is yes, she says "yes" not yeah.

Greek For A Day

Saturday we attended the Greek Festival at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church. We look forward to the 2 Greek Festivals that are held around town each year. One is at the beginning of summer and the other one is at the end of summer. A good way to start off the summer and a good way to end it.

Kaitlynn's Humor

Earlier this week, Kaitlynn, MawMaw and I were in the car going back to MawMaw's house and Kaitlynn said something about her hair. I asked her to repeat herself and she had us cracking up. As she was running her hands through the back of her hair she said, "My blond hair is so pretty!" I'm glad that she is so complimentary to herself. I hope she stays that way. Self-esteem is a huge issue and I feel one of the most important things I can help her with is having a positive self-image and high self-esteem.

I knew that Kaitlynn knew the alphabet, but wasn't sure if she could recite it in it's entirety. Friday morning, while watching Sesame Street, Abby was singing the alphabet song and Kaitlynn chimed in at "w, x, y and z". Then while driving to MawMaw's that evening, she heard me singing along to the radio. I asked her to sing along with me. So she started singing the alphabet song. She sang it in it's entirety the first time. The second time she wanted me to sing it and the third time she got to "l, m, n, o, p" which sounded more like "l, men, o, p" and she started laughing so hard and saying "pee", "you peed", "you peed". It was so funny that she got a kick out of this. So we teased each other the rest of the car ride about "peeing".

Disney on Ice - 100 Years of Magic

Thursday, MawMaw, Kaitlynn and I attended Disney on Ice - 100 Years of Magic at the Family Arena. We were lucky enough to be able to attend the preshow, too.
Waiting to meet with the group
All checked in and waiting for the preshow event.
The preshow event was held at the Locker Room Grill.
Kaitlynn was excited to see the Tinker Bell cup filled with crayons on each table along with Mickey and Minnie coloring sheets.
Kaitlynn was scared of Mickey and Minnie at first. Then she wanted to follow them out when they left to get ready for the show.
Watching them prepare the ice for the show.
We got goodies bags for attending. In the goodie bag was this plush Mickey Mouse, a coloring book and some other cool stuff.
Meal at the preshow - they fed us well!
Waiting in anticipation for the show to begin
Mickey, Minnie, Donald Duck, Goofy, Chip and Dale started the show off.

Here's a video from the end of the show.

The show was absolutely amazing. It was so magical! Every girl (young and old) deserves to see it. It was such a special night. My favorite was Lion King. I just loved watching all of the characters glide across the ice. They are so talented. It really is a must see.

You still have time to see the show. Show dates are: Friday, September 4 7PM
