Kaitlynn's 3rd Birthday Party

Sunday the 21st was Kaitlynn's 3rd birthday party. We had it at a local McDonald's. It was great having the party somewhere besides our house - so much less prep. The party wasn't as structured as it was supposed to be, but the kids all had fun. The hardest part for Kaitlynn was having to keep coming out of the play land to go into the party room for different things. She wanted to just stay in the play land and play with her friends and cousins - can you blame her? She wanted no part of the party room - eating lunch, playing games or blowing out the candles.

We had about 30-35 people attend the party. The kids played in the play land while waiting for lunch. We rounded the kids up and brought them to the party room to eat. Then the kids went back out to the play land. The kids were rounded up again and brought to the party room for games. The kids played Pin the Tale on the Donkey, then ran back out to the play land after finishing the game. We had to round the kids back up and bring them to the party room for cake. We sang "Happy Birthday" to Kaitlynn and she refused to blow out her candles (because she wanted to go back out to the play land) - so mommy blew out the candles. Of course all / most of the kids ran back to the play land. Kaitlynn did wait to eat some ice cream before going to the play land.

Her party would not have been a party without a crasher. Yes, there was a party crasher at a 3 year old's birthday! This little boy kept coming up to us and saying that his mommy said he could join the party. And well, we told him that this mommy said he couldn't!

We were at McDonald's for about 6 hours that day! Dave, Kaitlynn and I arrived about 45 minutes before the party so that Dave and I could eat lunch and see what the party room looked like (decorations, etc). The party was supposed to last 1 hour and 15 minutes, but the girl said we could have access to the party room for 3 hours (since there were no parties after us). And we used it! After most of the kids left, Kaitlynn opened gifts. Kaitlynn and her cousin Annabelle had so much fun playing in the play land until the adults couldn't take being at McDonald's for another second!

Carousel

Saturday evening (February 20th), we attended church service. Kaitlynn attended her kid's class. She was so proud to go to class. It was so exciting to see!
They talked about sharing. The Bible Truth for the week was "Share with others." Hebrews 16:13.

We ate dinner out and while at dinner we asked Kaitlynn if she had a name for her pony (the one MawMaw bought her at Disney Live! Rockin' Road Show). She said the pony's name was Carousel and that she was a girl like her. We thought that was a pretty great name.

Then we went looking for last minute party stuff that we wanted for the birthday party at McDonald's. I couldn't believe how hard it was to find Ice Age stuff. Actually it was impossible!

Disney Live! Rockin' Road Show

This afternoon Kaitlynn, Dave, MawMaw and I went to see Disney Live! Rockin' Road Show. It was so special to get to see this show on Kaitlynn's birthday weekend. The show was at Chaifetz Arena, which is a small, but nice venue. This is the first Disney Live! show to play at Chaifetz Arena. Parking wasn't bad; we were able to find street parking, which only cost about $2 (for the meter). The show was about 2 hours, including a 15 minute intermission. Goofy started the show, with Donald Duck, Minnie Mouse and Mickey Mouse not far behind. The gang traveled along looking for acts for their talent show. They came across Cinderella, Woody, Jessie, Buzz Lightyear and Tigger. After intermission, the talent show began! This is a fun and interactive show! Kaitlynn enjoyed the horse that MawMaw bought her as a souvenir. She clapped, danced and sang along to the show. She said Minnie Mouse was her favorite part!

If you are in St. Louis, you only have one more day left to see this show. It is playing again on Sunday, February 21 at 1PM.
Here is a discount code just for you:
MOMBLOG CODE: $18 Flat (Additional service charges, facility and handling fees apply)
This is a savings of up to $13!

In exchange for this review, I received tickets to see the show from Feld. The opinion expressed in this review is that of my own.

Friends and Family

Tuesday we met Sarah and Aidan at Kangaroo Kids for a playdate. Kaitlynn had been asking about Aidan since the weekend. It was real cute. She would play with some of the kids her age and then tell them that she had to go to check on her friend (Aidan). She'd tell them bye and thanks for playing with her. She'd go check on Aidan for a few minutes and then go back to playing with the kids her age. We ran into my cousin, her daughter Annabelle and new baby Alayna. It's been a long time since we saw them. The new baby is about 8 weeks old. Annabelle and Kaitlynn enjoyed playing with each other. Kaitlynn refused to leave. I finally had to just carry her out after being there for about 4+ hours.

Thursday, I attended Bible Study. Dave received some very promising news! That afternoon Kaitlynn, MawMaw and I went out for lunch and errands. We visited Great Grandma, Uncle Dale and Aunt Sue.

Tonight we went to MawMaw's. Hanna came over and cut Dave's and Kaitlynn's hair. Then we all went to Pasta House for dinner.

General Hospital

I am so excited to announce that I am a General Hospital Brand Ambassador! I have been a viewer since I was a little girl. My mom used to watch this soap opera. I love the story lines on the show and the real topics that they address. They have talked about AIDS, mental illness and Post Partum Depression just to name a few. If you haven't watched this show, I encourage you to check with your local listings or go to ABC Daytime - General Hospital.

I am a participant in a Mom Central campaign for ABC Daytime and will receive a tote bag or other General Hospital branded items to facilitate my review.

Valentine's Day

Sunday, we exchanged Valentine's gifts. Dave gave Kaitlynn some chocolates. Kaitlynn and I gave Dave some books, a Valentine's cookie and some crafts the she made. Dave and Kaitlynn gave me a couple Victoria's Secret bras and matching panties and some Godiva chocolates. We gave Kaitlynn some candy, a Bratz doll (Valentine's Day collector's edition), flash cards, notepad with pen, puzzle and activity book.

We went to the Zoo for their Mardi Gras Parade. We got to watch the March of the Penguins again. We were up really close this time. It was so awesome. Kaitlynn loved it! Penguins are one of her favorite animals. Then she had her face painted. She wanted a Mardi Gras mask. She made a penguin with a toilet paper roll. We had a good time, despite the weather. It was snowing and pretty cold out.

We adopted a king penguin for Kaitlynn. This is part of a Valentine's / birthday gift. With the adoption, she received a 12" plush king penguin, adoption certificate, color photo and fact sheet, car decal and t-shirt transfer, name on the Zoo Parents Kiosk for 1 year and an invitation to the Zoo Parents Picnic.

After the Zoo, we went to the evening church service. Kaitlynn didn't get to attend her KidzMinistry class. She really missed it, but it isn't offered at the Sunday evening service.

My Birthday Weekend

Friday the 12th, Dave and Kaitlynn went out shopping. Kaitlynn and I packed for the weekend. Packed for the weeked you ask? Kaitlynn spent Friday night at MawMaw's. They had a Valentine's / Mardi Gras party. Dave and I spent the evening at Cheshire Lodge. We took advantage of a Valentine's promotion they had going on. We had dinner and drinks at Fox & Hounds Tavern. Then relaxed in our room with more drinks, snacks and the Winter Olympics Opening Ceremony. Saturday was my 32nd birthday! My sister was the first to wish me Happy Birthday (via a text message really early in the morning). Kaitlynn called to wish me Happy Birthday, too. Dave and I went to the Mardi Gras parade. Cheshire Lodge offered shuttle service to and from the celebration. I pretended it was a big celebration for me! We had a great time at the parade and the hurricanes were awesome. We got lots of beads! It was much tamer at the parade than I remember previous years being, but it was still lots of fun.

We went to MawMaw's, where I got my birthday gift from her. She gave me a couple pairs of jeans and some Victoria's Secret bras. I really needed that stuff. My jeans don't fit (too big) and well my bras are too small.

My birthday dinner was at Casa Gallardo. I enjoyed sharing my birthday with the most important people (family and friends) in my life. The food was fantastic as well as the margaritas! Then we went back to MawMaw's and had cookie cake.

When we got home, Dave and Kaitlynn gave me a gift from them. They gave me tulips and a gift card for a massage. I had a fabulous birthday!

Valentine's Classes and Dave's Birthday

Thursday the 11th, Kaitlynn attended Be My Valentine at the ECC with MawMaw while I attended Bible Study. They made lots of crafts. After class, Kaitlynn and MawMaw played in the Commons area while they waited for me to pick them up.

We went to lunch, ran some errands, ate dinner and attended Sweets for the Sweet at the library. Kaitlynn listened to a couple of Valentine's stories and made 2 crafts. Afterwards we checked out more books and DVDs.

That evening, we waited for Dave to come home to celebrate his birthday with him. He turned 31. Kaitlynn gave him a Cardinals shirt and a box of vanilla wafers. I gave him a men's daily devotional and 2 pairs of his favorite socks. We celebrated with cheesecake!

Dave's Birthday Dinner

Wednesday, Kaitlynn and I attended Motor Masters. It was Sports day.

We went to dinner at McCormick and Schmicks for Dave's birthday.

Valentine's Parties

Monday the 8th, Kaitlynn, Aidan and I attended a Valentine's Party at the library. We sang songs, listened to Valentine stories, played games and made crafts.

After the library, we went to Yummy & Co for the playgroup's Valentine's Party.

Then Kaitlynn went to preschool to see her friend Tyler (and MawMaw).

Church and Bowling

Sunday the 7th, we attended church. Kaitlynn attended KidzMinistry. They continued learning about Jesus' love for them. After church and KidzMinistry, we were sitting in the lobby drinking coffee (and hot chocolate). I asked Kaitlynn to do something and she said she couldn't because she was watching these boys - 2 boys were running around outside.

That afternoon, we went bowling with Aunt Neese, Hanna, Adam, Brandon and MawMaw. We had a good time.

Valentine's Swap

I joined the Valentine's Swap at The Mommy Files. I was paired up with Leslie at Enjoy Life, Enjoy Now! Kaitlynn and I had so much fun getting things together to send to Leslie and her girls. Kaitlynn decorated Valentine's cards to send to the girls. I showed Kaitlynn their pictures and she was excited about it. To see what we sent them, click here.

Of course receiving a gift was just as much fun as putting one together. Kaitlynn (and I) were so excited when the package came. Kaitlynn couldn't wait to open it. It was so much fun! Here's what we received:
a pink stuffed doggy, lotion, glitter hearts, lots of candy, play-doh, pencil and stamper, candle (that smells soooo good), note pad (magnetic), mini puzzle, mini plant and a cute little Valentine "basket" to hold everything.

Kaitlynn slept with the doggy the night we received the package. Super cute!

Thanks so much Leslie for the thoughtful gifts. What a great package! Thanks to Shannon at The Mommy Files for putting this together. I can't wait for the Easter Swap!

Library and Hearts

We picked up more Valentine's Day books from the library on Thursday. We also picked up a couple books on the Chinese New Year.

Look at this sleeping doll! She loves cuddling with Brittany (the chipmunk).

By Friday, I was pretty much out of commission. I don't know if it was from having blood work done a few times this week or the new medication or both, but I was just done.
Kaitlynn did a lot of artwork this weekend. She had so much fun painting these hearts.

Winter Wonderland and Friends

Kaitlynn attended Motor Masters at the ECC. The theme was Winter Wonderland. After class, Kaitlynn went to MawMaw's preschool for a little bit to play with her friend Tyler.

Kaitlynn and Aidan played really well together and were so cute. Kaitlynn decided to give Aidan a haircut. Of course, he had to get his hair washed first.

Kaitlynn loves taking pictures with our digital camera. She took several of MawMaw and daddy at the house and then took some in the car. She also likes bringing in the trash cans. That is one of her "jobs" at MawMaw's - to help take the trash cans down the driveway and bring them back up.

Here's some videos of Kaitlynn "cutting" Aidan's hair:

Don't worry the scissors are plastic and not sharp at all.

The nurse called with an update to my blood work on Tuesday. The other more comprehensive test, showed things weren't as bad. Now I have to wait for my other doctor to look at the results to see if he wants to make any changes. The nurse did call in a new medication for me that I have to take for the next 10 days and it has been kicking my butt!

Pediatric Dentist and More Bloodwork

Tuesday, Kaitlynn had a cleaning at the dentist. She did a great job letting the hygienist floss, brush and use fluoride on her teeth (considering there was a kid a couple chairs over completely freaking out). This did scare Kaitlynn and she kept telling the hygienist she was done. Next time, I will make them stop until the other kid is finished and out of the room. How scary it must have been for Kaitlynn to have someone screaming and crying their head off a couple chairs away from her! While waiting for the dentist to count her teeth, she kept saying she wanted to go home. She let the dentist count her teeth and unfortunately the dentist found 3 cavities! Yes, you read that correctly. My little baby has 3 cavities. Of course, I felt like a failure when I heard that. Especially since she has had perfect check ups before. I sat down and talked with the dentist. We talked about Kaitlynn's eating and drinking habits. The dentist said they seemed fine and didn't seem to be problematic. She also said that Kaitlynn has been doing an excellent job with brushing her teeth. The only thing we could come up with, is that it must be genetic. The dentist said the spots where the cavities are were a little suspicious. For this reason alone, it is super important to take your little ones to the dentist - pediatric dentist. It seems there was nothing we could do to make things different or to stop Kaitlynn from getting these cavities. She doesn't walk around drinking all day. She really isn't allowed many sugary drinks. We've limited juice. She is not allowed to drink soda. We also don't have candy and other unhealthy snacks (cookies, chips, etc) in our house. We just don't buy that stuff. She doesn't snack or graze all day. She brushes her teeth regularly. She drinks lots of water. She's a pretty healthy eater. I am so glad that we take her to the dentist and that this was found. I can't imagine the pain she would be in if the cavities went unattended. Unfortunately, we have a tough ecision to make. The dentist said that they could give her a local anesthestic to take care of the cavities, but it would take 2 sessions because of the location of the cavities. She said it would be hard / traumatic on Kaitlynn at first, but she thinks Kaitlynn could do it. Our other option is to take her to a different dentist or hospital and have her sedated and get it done all at once. I just can't imagine having her sedated or giving her a local anesthetic. It totally freaks me out. I just get so anxious every time I think about it. I am so concerned about the side effects (short term and long term) from both of these options. I know that she has to have something done about the cavities, but I just can't seem to get past the anxiousness of it to make a decision. I talked with a good friend, who studies pediatric dentistry, and she was very helpful in giving advice on the situation and what she would do if it were her daughter. So if anyone has had any experience with this, please give me some advice!!

As if that wasn't bad enough, I received a call from the nurse at my doctor's office. One of the things tested Monday in my lab work, came back dangerously low. I had to go back to the lab for more blood work. Too many health concerns in one day for me!

Library, Preschool and Lab Work

This is a picture that a little boy named Tyler made Kaitlynn last Wednesday when she went to MawMaw's preschool. They love playing together. He always asks about her and gets upset if she doesn't come to preschool.

Monday we went to the library and picked up these books.
Then we went to MawMaw's preschool, where I dropped Kaitlynn off. Unfortunately, my free time was spent getting blood work done.
At preschool, she made this picture for Daddy,
this picture for me
and she won't tell us who she made this one for. She did say "grandpa", but when I asked for clarification, she refused to tell me.
MawMaw bought Kaitlynn this Super Bowl cookie. Although Kaitlynn isn't one for cookies or sweets, really - she did eat most of it.

Penguin March

Sunday we went to church. Kaitlynn ran right into her class. This week they learned about Jesus' love for them. After church when we picked Kaitlynn up, I could tell she was less anxious. Jennifer said she did great this week. She only asked for us once and it was right before snack time. Once she found out it was snack time, she was fine. The Bible Truth for the week is: Jesus loves me. This week's Bible story told about parents bringing their children to Jesus. He was happy to see them. He loves children. This week we are to read Mark 10:13-16 and talk about the people that love our children, especially Jesus.

We picked up MawMaw and went to the Zoo. It was cold, but sunny out. The Zoo was having a Delta Dental Winter 2010 event. We missed the Delta Dental show, "Land of Smiles", but did get to watch the Penguin's March. Unfortunately we weren't up close enough to the penguins, but did get to see them. We ate lunch, then Kaitlynn got her face painted. We went to the Bird House and to see the big cats. We were only there for a few hours because I was feeling nauseous and like I was going to faint. Fun, huh?

Here are some videos from the Penguin March:

Birthday Party Invitation

PhotobucketHere's Kaitlynn's birthday party invitations. She is having her party at McDonald's. She chose Ice Age 3 as the theme. It's going to be a small party. McDonald's offers an hour and 15 minute party with games, etc for the kids in their party room at an extremely reasonable price.

Wrong Size

Saturday evening, when Kaitlynn and I were driving to MawMaw's, Kaitlynn said "I love you mommy." I told her I loved her too. She said "no you don't." I told her "Oh, yes I do." She said "more than cheese burger and fries." I reassured her that I love her "more than cheese burger and fries." Not sure why she said this. Especially since I am a vegetarian - I never eat cheeseburgers!

We went to the mall with MawMaw that evening. We went to Victoria's Secret first, where I tried on bras. Now I know why I have been having so many problems with my bras. Considering they are old and the wrong size! I am telling you there is something amazing about wearing the right size bra. I can't believe I have been wearing too small a cup size! Now, to last until my birthday. That's when I get my new bras my mommy bought me!

We picked up some vitamins / supplements from the vitamin store, then went to Claire's to look for a new pair of clip-on earrings for Kaitlynn. Kaitlynn saw a 6 year old getting her ears pierced and decided she wanted her's pierced. We called daddy and daddy told Kaitlynn she needed to wait. We still think she is a bit too young for that. It's a big responsibility and we want her to be able to take care of them. We ate dinner at Applebee's and then went to Wal-Mart.

Old Friends: A Reunion

Saturday we met some old high school friends for lunch at Pasta House in Crestwood Mall. There was 6 of us that got together. We brought our spouses and kids, too; we had a good size group. It's amazing how everyone looked the same as they did in high school. We are all in such different, yet similar phases in our lives. It's also interesting that 4 of us live local and I only see one of them regularly! It was great getting together and sharing where our lives are now and fun to meet the spouses and kids.

After lunch, Kaitlynn wanted to play in the play area, since this was a mall she hadn't been too before. She met a little girl named Grace that was about 6 years old that she was chasing around. We were having a decent time until this crazy lady came up and asked Grace's parents if they had kids playing in the play area. Grace's mom said yes. The crazy lady said she worked for the mall part time and that they needed to give her $10 for their kid to play in the play area. Grace's mom said she wasn't going to give her any money. The lady said "I'm a good actor, aren't I?" OK, psycho, no one is going to pay you to let our kids play in the play area! Isn't that ridiculous?!
