Adopting a Tiger

Tuesday morning / afternoon, Kaitlynn was pretending to paint my face. She painted a butterfly, a tiger and an elephant. Then she used her vet kit to doctor on Bailey and then I used it to doctor on her.

Since I didn't believe the school / district calendar, I called Kaitlynn's preschool. I was so shocked to find out she starts in 1 month! It's so bittersweet! I think she is so ready for preschool and will absolutely love it, but I am also sad about it. She is growing up. She is starting her school career! Makes me cry everytime I think about it.

Kaitlynn and I went for a quick visit to the Zoo, at least for us! We normally try to spend all day or at least 3+ hours there. Since we went late in the afternoon, it was only open for less than 2 hours. We adopted an Amur Tiger. They had a great promotion where you could adopt any big cat and get 4 tickets to The Muny to see Cats for the weekend. Kaitlynn actually wanted to do Zoomagination Station, but they were already closed for the day. The first animals Kaitlynn wanted to look at were the bears.
Kaitlynn touching bear fur.
I was surprised when she didn't want to look at the penguins. We skipped that and went to ride the carousel. Since I had to pay for 2 tickets, I got on 1 of the animals right next to Kaitlynn. The guy told me I had to get off and stand next to Kaitlynn. I told him that they have been letting us ride next to Kaitlynn and since I had to pay for a ticket it was only fair. He said she wasn't tall enough to ride by herself. I was not happy with that policy and the guy knew it. When the ride was over, he had me measure Kaitlynn. She was 41 inches. 1 inch shy of being able to ride by herself. I told him that if it is policy that I have to stand next to her, I should not have to pay since it is their policy. He said he understood and that I needed to tell the main office. Believe me, I will be calling them.

We went to see the orangutans and this teenager / young adult got right in front of Kaitlynn (who was sitting in her stroller) so she couldn't see. Yeah, I am sure it wasn't intentional, but it was rude no less. Well I let him have it. He just looked at me. Probably thought I was crazy. I do not like when people do things like that. Like he couldn't see over her stroller!
We saw the prairie dogs, sea lions and went into the Bird House where we saw daddy's favorite bird (the toucan). Kaitlynn told me her favorite bird was the kookaburra. We saw the big cats and went to look at the other animals on Historic Hill, but they were already put up. We went back by the penguins and then Kaitlynn played outside the Living World.
She threw 3 pennies into the water and I asked her what she wished for. She told me Mickey Mouse. I have no idea what she meant.

We went to The Muny and redeemed our tickets for the weekend. I can't wait to see Cats! Since we were so hot amd sticky from our short visit to the Zoo, we treated ourselves to a Frosty from Wendy's!

Kaitlynn and I met MawMaw and MawMaw Tommie for dinner. While waiting for them to get to the restaurant, Kaitlynn entertained everyone by singing Old MacDonald and then her ABCs!

Swim Class and ER

Monday Kaitlynn, MawMaw, MawMaw Tommie and I went to Target because I needed to buy a new swimsuit for Kaitlynn's swim class that evening. I found a swimsuit that everyone seemed to like. I asked Kaitlynn if she would like me to wear the suit to her swim class and she said she thought I should keep looking! Well, I didn't because I didn't have a whole lot of time. It's a tankini which I was hoping to find. We took Kaitlynn to South County Mall to play at the play area (and I was hoping to check out a few stores in the mall for suits).

My younger brother called to ask if I could take him to the hospital because he was having chest pain and trouble breathing. We immediately left the mall and picked him up. MawMaw, Kaitlynn and I took him to the ER. I figured Kaitlynn would miss her swim class since we were at the ER and Dave couldn't take her because of his back.

My brother was put in an ER room and so I figured it was a waiting game. They did a chest x-ray, an EKG and some other tests. Since it was just a waiting game and there wasn't anything Kaitlynn or I could do, I figured it would be OK to go ahead with her swim class. MawMaw stayed at the ER.

We got to swim class on time. After changing into our swimsuits, we got into the shallow pool. Kaitlynn's teacher called to her to introduce her to her youngest daughter Kristen (10). Kaitlynn was ready to head over where her teacher and teacher's daughter were in the deeper pool. We went over there and Kaitlynn practiced climbing out of the pool by herself and jumping back in over and over. Swim class started with singing Duke of York, then they worked on floating (which I have to say Kaitlynn did fabulous with), then kicking and then climbing out of the pool. The teacher said that an 8 month old was actually able to save themselves from drowning because they learned this. I am so glad she is learning some possible life saving techniques. Hopefully it will never come into use. We sang Wheels on the Bus, then swam for toys (worked on swim stroke and kicking), and sang Popcorn. While swimming for toys, Kaitlynn asked the teacher if they could go to the shallow pool. Her teacher said they would before the end of class. Kaitlynn was so excited! Her teacher said she is ready to move to the next level and is actually already ahead of the next level. I really do love her encouragement! We went to the shallow pool where the kids dove for rings and other toys. We played for a bit after class, then got dressed to head back up to the hospital.

Once we got in the car, I called MawMaw to let her know we were headed back up. She said my brother was being released. It appeared to be an inflammation in the lung. Thank You God! We picked them up and had a late dinner.

Something I did before the craziness of the day ensued was, I signed Kaitlynn up for gymnastics. I am so excited about it and hope she enjoys it.

Relaxing Day of SpongeBob

Last Sunday, we had a relaxing day at home. Dave hurt his back and needed to rest it. Kaitlynn was up early again, but fell back to sleep and slept until late morning. It was a SpongeBob kind of day, since it was on Nickelodeon almost all day.

Kaitlynn told us she missed Pumpkin because MawMaw killed her! I don't know where she got that idea. MawMaw had to get rid of Pumpkin, but she didn't kill her!

For lunch, Kaitlynn told us she was going to eat 40 chicken nuggets! But only put 2 on the baking sheet. Guess she backed out of the 40!

I felt bad for not getting to go to church. It definitely felt like something was missing from the day / week. Thankfully I can watch the service on podcast.

New Pool Set Up

Kaitlynn woke up really early last Saturday, but thankfully fell back to sleep. We slept until the afternoon. It was nice! After she woke up, she got into her swimsuit and while waiting for time to go outside stuffed two bears and a doll with her new toy Hanna got her. She had fun stuffing them!

We went outside and she blew bubbles while Dave was setting up our new pool. Kaitlynn and I finally set up her Step2 WaterWheel Play Table (which she got in February / March for her birthday)! She played in her Elmo sprinkler and in her kiddie pool.
Kaitlynn had fun playing in the pool box. She wanted me to shut the "doors."

The new pool set up was going so great, but we ran into some trouble. Our yard is not very flat and so it won't fill correctly. Not sure what we are going to do about that.

After dinner, Kaitlynn and I were talking about what she's going to be for Halloween. She has finally stopped saying Happy Feet (that was her costume last year).

Jungle Boogie - Mighty Big Band

Friday, I received the Parkway P.A.T. newsletter. After reviewing the newsletter and noticing the changes the program has had to make, I was so upset with the state for cutting the program budget. Our kids are the ones that are going to suffer. What a shame! Thankfully our P.A.T. program still exits and is still functioning. They are just not able to offer as many free activities as they have in the past. Actually they are only able to offer 3 from September to December, which is significantly lower than what they used to offer. The legislature and people who had a hand in cutting this program's budget should be greatly ashamed of themselves. Cutting a program that helps our children is not a smart idea.
Anyway, I am not going to rant about that anymore in this post.

Dave, Kaitlynn and I met Hanna and Brandon at the Zoo. We looked at the big cats, zebras, camels and giraffes. We watched the sea lion show, which was really awesome!

We went to the Primate House, Reptile House and The Penguin and Puffin Cove.
Kaitlynn, Hanna and Brandon rode the carousel.
We rode the train.
After the train ride, we met Cynthia, Mike, Annabelle and Alayna at Lakeside and ate dinner.
Kaitlynn, Annabelle and Mike rode the carousel.
Then Kaitlynn and Brandon rode the carousel.
We headed over towards Lakeside Cafe where the music was playing and met up with Teri, Hayden and Quin.
Kaitlynn and Annabelle

We had another fun night at Jungle Boogie!

We visited MawMaw that evening for a little bit, since she's been under the weather for almost a week.
Kaitlynn was very sad when MawMaw told her she had to get rid of Pumpkin. She was crying so hard and saying she missed her.
It was a late night out for us. Kaitlynn fell asleep in the car. I was craving cheese dip, so Dave made some that was very yummy. We tried to watch "Alice In Wonderland" but got too tired.

Pool Fun

Thursday, Kaitlynn was on her old school Barney kick. She loves the Christmas episode with Michael in it from the late 80's / early 90's.
After I had enough Barney, we decided to go play in our backyard in the pool. Kaitlynn had to wear her play heels with her swimsuit outside. Kaitlynn, Lever and I had fun!
Lever jumped right in as we were filling the pool up.
Kaitlynn and Lever playing in the pool.
While watering the tomato plants, I saw lots of green tomatoes! I can't wait for them to get red. it should be soon!

Maya and Leah came over to play in the pool and Elmo sprinkler with Kaitlynn. They were having such a good time until Maya got stung by a bee. Ouch!
While waiting for Maya to come back over, Kaitlynn and Leah played in the pool and colored rocks with side walk chalk.
After Maya came back over, the girls colored on the patio with side walk chalk. Then they drove around on the jeep. Kaitlynn did a really good job of sharing her jeep! She actually even let Maya drive it. They were driving each other to their "'homes."

After coming in from being outside, I took a nice cool shower and made dinner.

After dinner we went back out to the pool. Kaitlynn was singing "The Hokey Pokey" while playing in the pool! It was very cute!

After Kaitlynn went to bed, Dave and I watched "Funny People". It was not so funny and I didn't really care for it.

Whitaker Festival - FolknBluesGrass

Kaitlynn had fun playing dress-up. She even had to go outside with her dress-up heels on. My girl knows how to walk in her heels! She always has.
While outside, Kaitlynn got into trouble for turning the hose on. She started praying, "Dear God, help me to not get into trouble. Amen!" I love the way she says "Amen." It's always with such exclamation and kind of drawn out.

Wednesday evening, we went to the Botanical Garden's Whitaker Festival. Free admission after 5PM to the Garden and the Children's Garden.
Kaitlynn and daddy had fun playing in the sprinklers at the Children's Garden!

She had fun climbing up and down the rock climbing wall near the treehouse. I can't believe she can climb it so well in flip flops.
The Children's Garden has so much for the kids to do. It's awesome! We went back over to play at the sprinklers before the Children's Garden closed for the concert.

We found a nice shaded area near the stage to picnic and listen to the music. The band playing was FolknBluesGrass.

We had a nice evening. It was not too unbearably hot, especially as the sun went down (and we stopped for frosties afterwards)!

Nice Break

Kaitlynn loves taking pictures. She captured a picture of the 3 dogs playing in the yard last Tuesday.

I got an unexpected break on Tuesday. Kaitlynn went over to the neighbors' house to play with Maya and Leah for an hour or two. When I went outside to get her from the neighbors', I got stung by something on my finger. Ouch!

As we were headed to meet our cousins for dinner and a playdate, Kaitlynn fell asleep. She woke up in a good mood, thankfully. I think it helped seeing Annabelle there. She was also excited to see Alayna. We ate dinner and then the girls played. Kaitlynn and Annabelle sang, danced and played in the play area. They played for over 3 hours!

Kaitlynn had a good day - she played with some of her favorite friends (the neighbor girls & her cousin)!

Start of New Swim Session

July 12th when I got home from an appointment, Dave told me to look outside. Lever (our puppy) was laying in the chiminea! We can't believe he could even fit in there.

Kaitlynn's 2nd session of swim lessons started. On the way to swim class Kaitlynn asked if her teacher was mad at her and if we thought she liked her.
We were so excited to see that Kaitlynn has the same swim teacher! It's a big class too, 13 kids!
They practiced getting in the pool.
Then sang the Popcorn song.
They worked on kicking, blowing bubbles in the water, sang "Wheels on the Bus", worked on floating, sang the Duck song and got the toys out and worked on "swimming" to their toy.
Kaitlynn's swim teacher told us if she keeps progressing the way she has, she's going 2 be in the Olympics! We love the encouragement she gives Kaitlynn!
They worked on climbing / getting out of the pool.

To end the class they sang the Duke of York song.
After swim class, Kaitlynn and daddy went to the shallow part of the pool. Kaitlynn was pretending to be daddy's lifeguard. It was really cute!

Church, Free Slurpees, and a Good Fortune

Sunday the 11th, we attended church. We listened to a great message by one of the associate pastors. The message was about idolatry, which we are all guilty of. Kaitlynn had fun in her class. She said they learned about sharing.
After church, while I was making lunch, Kaitlynn was singing a version of the ABCs that she made up.
She was having fun cooking at her kitchen, singing and dancing.

We took advantage of the free slurpees at 7-11 since it was 7/11. Kaitlynn's favorite was the kiwi strawberry and my favorite was the cherry.

We had Chinese for dinner. My fortune said "Life is a series of choices. Today yours are good ones."

Kaitlynn played the piano for us. I think we will eventually sign her up for lessons because she has always liked the piano and does pretty good with it. She doesn't bang on the keys.

Grant's Farm and Titanic

Saturday the 10th, we went to Grant's Farm. There was quite a crowd visiting. A lot of animals were out when we were on the tram ride. It was a pretty warm day out.
Kaitlynn fed the goats. After feeding the goats through the pen, she decided she needed to go in and brush them with daddy.
Kaitlynn rode the carousel. Then she had to find the lizard. Kaitlynn had fun playing in the mister before heading over to the Beer Garden to get a snowcone. She was a little disappointed that they didn't have a tiger's blood one, but she ended up liking the orange one. We walked through the stables and then headed home.

That evening we picked up Qdoba for dinner and went to The Muny to see Titanic. We sat in the free seats, so we had to get there a couple hours early. We got really good seats (for free ones). It was a beautiful night. Kaitlynn fell and got hurt while she was running to the bathroom with daddy. She fell into the metal bathroom door and hit her head and scraped her knee. Her knee wasn't too bad, but her head looked bad. They gave us some ice and Kaitlynn left it on for a few seconds at a time. She was fine shortly after the fall happened. The last half of the first part she kept saying "I've got to poop!" We were like wonderful! Anyway after that was taken care of, we were able to enjoy the rest of the show. It was a really good show.

Central Park and Jungle Boogie

Friday, July 9th Kaitlynn and I met some moms and kiddos from our church at Central Park for a playdate. 6 moms and their kids met up with us (Jill, Mackenzie, Olivia, Brayden, Anna and her son and daughter, Crystal and her son and daughter, Julie and her son and daughter, Colleen and her daughter and son and another mom and her daughter). It was nice because we basically had the playground to ourselves. Kaitlynn had fun playing with her new friends!

When we got home Kaitlynn took a nap, so Dave and I started watching "Where the Wild Things Are." We ended up falling asleep during it and never finished it. It was just not our kind of movie.

That evening we picked up MawMaw and grabbed some dinner from Wendy's to take to Jungle Boogie. Lamar Harris was the band playing. We met up with Teri, Hayden and Quin. We ate dinner, went to the Jungle of the Apes and enjoyed the music. The kids made artwork (crayon rubbings) of different animal scenes. Another fun night!

When we dropped MawMaw off, Kaitlynn told her to have "sweet dreams."

e.p.t “Moment You Knew” blog tour

I am participating in the e.p.t “Moment You Knew” blog tour. I found out I was pregnant with Kaitlynn the day after Father's Day in 2006. I remember using a digital pregnancy test in the morning before work and it was positive. I didn't believe the results so I bought another pregnancy test during my lunch break at work. I took that second test when I got home from work and got another positive result. Dave and I were both super excited and couldn't wait to tell people! We were supposed to wait, but he ended up telling someone at work. We told my parents and a few of my other family members a few weeks later while out at breakfast. We told his family on the 4th of July. I saved both pregnancy tests, all the ultrasound pictures, our hospital bracelets, all the cards we received at our 5 different baby showers, decorations from each baby shower and all the cards received when Kaitlynn was born. What a special moment when seeing that positive test result!!!

Dr. Sears Lecture

Thursday night MawMaw and I attended a lecture by Dr. Jim Sears at Meadowbrook Country Club with a few other ladies. The lady that invited us, I met at the Women's Friday Night Live event I attended at a friend's church.

Jim Sears, M.D., is star and co-host of the show, The Doctors. He is a board certified pediatrician in private practice with his brother and father, Dr. William Sears. He has been featured on Parenting.com's "Ask the Experts," and has written for Parenting and BabyTalk magazine. Dr Sears' medical advice has been featured on "Dr. Phil" and the PBS parenting series, "Help Me Grow." He is an active contributor to the content of AskDrSears.com, and is co-author of The Healthiest Kid in the Neighborhood (Little, Brown 2006), Father's First Steps - Twenty-Five Things Every New Father Should Know, (Harvard Common Press 2006). The Premature Baby Book (Little, Brown 2004), The Baby Sleep Book (Little, Brown 2006) and the best selling The Baby Book - Revised Edition (Little, Brown 2003). Dr. Jim's personal passions include endurance cycling, triathlon, sailboat racing and musical theater with his daughter, Lea. His favorite role has been Harold Hill in "The Music Man". Other recent productions include "Joseph and the Technicolor Dream Coat" (French brother), "The Wizard of Oz" (Cowardly Lion), "Annie" (Rooster), "Fiddler on the Roof" (Lazar Wolf) "Oliver! (Mr. Bumble) and Big River (King). In his free time, Dr. Jim enjoys snow skiing, hiking, and mountain biking (especially during a beautiful sunrise!). This information was taken from this site.

It was a very informative lecture. Here are some notes from the evening:
Dr. Jim Sears said the New England Journal of Medicine published that being overweight by 40lbs increased our chances of:
heart attacks by 360%
cancer by 80%
high blood pressure by 260%
degenerative arthritis by 400%
dying by 110%

By choosing fruit (clementine) over sugar snacks (4 oreo cookies), we increase our antioxidants, add hundreds of phytonutrients, reduce calories and fat over high calorie, sugar addictive foods, and bad fats that cause inflammation.

We should be eating 9-13 fruits and vegetables per day - Juice Plus is an easy solution to getting a great foundation for our nutritional health.

Backyard Playdate and a New Baby

Wednesday July 7th was an exciting day. Joy FM, a Christian radio station, was able to secure a stronger signal at 99.1 fm. The new signal covers the entire city of St. Louis and much of the surrounding area. I love this station!

Kaitlynn and I went to Emily, Ella and Bea's for a backyard pool playdate. Lots of Kaitlynn's friends were there: Kylie and her sister Ava, Gabe and his sister Merci, Bailey and her brother Taylor, and Kaylee.

Later that evening we went to visit our friends, Jill and Emil. Their daughter Katy was born on Tuesday. Kaitlynn was so excited to meet Katy and extremely happy when Jill's stepmom asked her if she wanted to help feed the baby. We were all excited to meet Katy! She's so adorable!

After we got home from the hospital and dinner at Casa, Kaitlynn told our dog Bailey "I can count on you." Isn't she sweet?!

Last Session 1 Swim Class

Monday July 5th, we slept / relaxed pretty much all day! Very nice and relaxing. Kailynn was pretending that Dave and I were dogs. My name was Dorothy and his was Ruff! She was trying to get us to play fetch (with her spoon) after brunch! Then she decided to play dead!

I was brushing Kailynn's hair for swim class and she said she looked like a princess. I told her I needed to fix my hair so I looked like a princess' mommy. She said, "Um I dont think so!" Then she told me she was a princess and princesses like "food and bubble gum and to sing and dance."

At swim class, they sang the Duck song, worked on floating, worked on kicking, got the toys out to "swim" to, sang "Wheels on the Bus" and went over to the shallow water to dive for rings. There were only 3 kids in the class. It was her last class from session 1. Kaitlynn's teacher just kept raving about how well she was doing. She said she does really well with kicking. She actually used the word "fabulous" for her kicking skills!

After class, while Dave and Kaitlynn were playing in the shallow water, I asked her teacher if she was ready to move up to the next level or if she should stay at this level. She said Kaitlynn is definitely a different child than the first night. She said the big factor in moving up is will she willingly / independently put her face in the water. Kaitlynn really doesn't like her face to get wet, so we figured we would do 1 more set of 5 classes of the Parent and Tot session.

We grabbed a bite to eat after class and Kaitlynn was wound up. She told us she has a "bad" leg! It seems to be her whole right side!

Happy 4th of July

MawMaw, Dave, Kaitlynn and I went to church. Kaitlynn attended her class. Her Bible story was about The Good Samaritan (Luke 10:30-37). "The hurting man needed a BIG helper." The verse for the week continued to be: "I can do all things through Christ, because He gives me strength!" Philippians 4:13. Our message continued with the Speaker Series. Jarrett Stevens talked about the biggest thing we have asked God for. He is opening a church, SoulCity Church, in Chicago in the Fall. I hope we are able to plan a trip to Chicago in the next year so we can visit this new church.

We had lunch at Mimis and it was delicious! We headed to the country, where MawMaw Tommie lives. Kaitlynn had so much fun riding on the 4wheeler, first with Adam, then Hanna and then Dave!
Kaitlynn had so much fun going down the water slide. She said she's "been wanting to do this her whole life!" When she would slide off the slide, she would jump up and say, "I ok!" Super cute!
Kaitlynn and the other kids did some pops, snaps and sparklers. After dinner they did more sparklers. One of the sparkler's sparks fell on Kaitlynn's toe. Thankfully she wasn't hurt or even burnt! Needless to say, she was done with the sparklers for the evening. Kaitlynn, Hanna, Adam and Brandon had fun swinging on the hammock. We started the bigger fireworks display after dark. We had a great time with family. I was so ready for bed when we got home!

Pool, Family and Fireworks

Saturday July 3rd, we enjoyed the beautiful warm weather by playing outside. Dave & Kaitlynn played in the pool. We also had Turtle out to enjoy the day. Then Kaitlynn & Sassy looked for animals in the "jungle."

Later MawMaw, Hanna, Brandon and Adam came over. We had a great dinner - barbeque, grilled corn on the cob, pasta salad and baked potatoes. We walked up the street to watch the city fireworks. They were awesome!

Then we headed home for dessert - lemon cake and Dave made the lemon icing! Yummy!

Jungle Boogie - Arvell & Co

Friday July 2nd Kaitlynn and I watered and checked on the tomato plants. Thankfully the tomato plants weren't dead! Glad they lived after the dogs dug them up. We still haven't been able to pick any tomatoes, but at least they are growing.

Dave, Kaitlynn, MawMaw and I picked up Qdoba for dinner and then went to the Zoo for Jungle Boogie. It was a pretty warm night. It was a nice night for a train ride! Kaitlynn had fun "taking pictures" with her pretend camera while on the train. Kaitlynn and Dave rode the carousel, then we listened to the music by the sea lions. MawMaw and Kaitlynn enjoyed a Tiger's Blood snowcone and danced to the music. We ran into Teri at the end of the evening. Dave and Kaitlynn threw around a rag and Kaitlynn pretended to be a dog. Don't ask! We also saw Kaitlynn's name on the Zoo Parents Program Kiosk for adopting a King Penguin.

State Park

Thursday, July 1st I received my new phone - a Samsung Impression. I really like it so far! It's a touch screen / slider phone.

We enjoyed the beautiful weather at the park! We had a great time - swinging on the swings at the playground, skipping rocks at the creek and a little hike! Totally loving this weather!

Kaitlynn has such a great heart & love for Jesus! While on the hike, she had to stop several times to "Thank Jesus." What an awesome child God has blessed us with! I wish I had a heart like hers.

Whenever Kaitlynn gets into trouble she tells us it's her "bad hand." I don't know how she came up with that, but it's so funny.

That evening Kaitlynn and I went to MawMaw's. MawMaw treated us to dinner at Pasta House.

SpongeBob Party and Beauty and the Beast

Wednesday the 30th Kaitlynn and MawMaw went to the library and attended a SpongeBob Party, actually called "Who Lives in a Pineapple Under the Sea?" Apparently there were too many kids there, so they didn't get to watch a movie and do all that was planned. This was a registration required event, so how do you end up with too many kids? Turn away the people who didn't register or after you get so many kids. Is that too difficult? Anyway they painted / sponged a picture, made an octopus, and that was basically it. One of my friends was there with her 2 boys and she offered to give Kaitlynn and MawMaw a ride home, but Kaitlynn said no. MawMaw and Kaitlynn walked home. On the way, they stopped and got a slurpee.

MawMaw was telling me about the kids having to wait to paint the pictures. She said that Kaitlynn was one of the 1st groups, and that they were being called in alphabetical order. I asked her how Kaitlynn went first. She said because her name is Amy. LOL!!! She didn't even realize it until I pointed it out to her! So funny and so smart. They would have been there all day!

Dave, Kaitlynn, MawMaw and I went to dinner. At dinner, Kaitlynn got upset because Dave told her she could have some of his water. She was drinking out of MawMaw's glass. Somehow this upset her and she said he made her "heart cry!"

We bought tickets to see Beauty and the Beast at The Muny. It was the last night it was playing. 3rd times the charm! On the way there Kaitlynn said, "Daddy I need your money!" I thought we had a few years before we got to that point! What will she come up with or say next?

After finding our seats and getting settled, Kaitlynn said "Hurry, put my tiara on before the prince comes out!" During the show, she was concerned about where Belle's daddy was. She has never seen the Disney movie. She was always afraid of the beast and never wanted to watch it.

At intermission, Kaitlynn said to me as she was shaking my hand, "Glad to meet you. Meet my friend MawMaw. She's crazy." Then she said to Dave, "Hi! Glad to meet you Dave. Meet my friend MawMaw." She is super silly!

She is also very sensitive. She was crying during the show, asking about Belle's daddy, then concerned for Belle and then for the beast. She really understands the emotions in movies and shows. I am always amazed at how much she understands and gets.

This show was totally worth all the trouble just to see it. It was amazing! I am so glad we rearranged our schedules for Wednesday night to see it.

Bust Again

Tuesday the 29th, I looked at cell phones. The guy at the store showed me the LG Neon, Samsung Solstice and the Samsung Impression. He said the Samsung Flight was being discontinued and that the Nokia was one of their lower end phones. I called customer service and asked about trading the LG VU for a Samsung Impression. The guy said he would get it sent out right away.

MawMaw, Kaitlynn and I tried to see Beauty and the Beast at The Muny again, but had no luck. All the free seats were taken. People got there many, many hours before the show to stand in line for them. All the paid seats (or at least cheaper seats) were taken as well. Kaitlynn was so sad. MawMaw ended up buying her some popcorn before we left to find our car. We must have walked by the car up a few times. I was almost convinced that the car had been stolen, then we found it. What a crazy, messed up night!

Swim Class with MawMaw

Monday the 28th started off very frustrating. The refurb phone I was sent on Friday quit working. First I was having the same issues as the last phone, then the screen wouldn't turn back on after I did a reset. I had some important calls to make too, so it was extremely frustrating.

Kaitlynn and I attended Monday Makeover. She was again the only child there. It actually ended up being just Marlene and me, so another lady from the office helped out. This really helped me get out of my bad mood over the cell phone issues I have been having.

I went to the Service Center to exchange my cell phone. I got it exchanged for another LG VU refurbished phone.

MawMaw, Kaitlynn and I had dinner at El Nopal. MawMaw attended Kaitlynn's swimming class with her.
Kaitlynn had a great time with MawMaw at swim class!
They sang the Popcorn song, worked on floating and sang Wheels on the Bus.
They worked on kicking, blowing bubbles, sang Motor Boat and Grand Old Duke of York.

They played in the shallow water, walked like an alligator and dove for rings. The teacher told us that Kaitlynn is doing great. She said she has had such a huge turn around from the first night and that you would never know she was the same child. She said Kaitlynn is such a fish now. It was wonderful to hear the teacher brag on Kaitlynn. I think she really likes Kaitlynn and I know Kaitlynn really likes her. We really like her too and are so appreciative of her. She really got Kaitlynn comfortable with the pool and learning to swim.
MawMaw and Kaitlynn played in the pool until closing time! MawMaw told Kaitlynn she was pooped and Kaitlynn said "You pooped in here!" Kaitlynn thought she meant she pooped in the pool! Such literal thinking. It's so cute!

In the car on the way home, Kaitlynn was putting on lip gloss. I asked her who she was getting all fixed up / gussied up for. She said "I gotta look good for daddy!" Isn't that sweet?!

By that afternoon / evening, I was having similar issues with the "new" refurbished cell phone. Needless to say, I was done with that phone and anything LG. I called customer service and they agreed that I could trade my LG VU for a different phone. The 4 they said I could chose from were: Samsung Solstice, Samsung Flight, LG Neon or Nokia Surge. The guy told me to take my time choosing because they would not let me change make and model of phones this next time around, like this has all been my fault!

Dave and I watched Paranormal Activity. It was an interesting movie. I thought it was supposed to be a true story. Anyone know if it is. I guess I could look it up.

Speaker Series, Chipotle and Ballwin Days

Sunday the 27th we attended church. Kaitlynn learned of the story of Mary and Martha (Luke 10:38-42). "Mary was a BIG listener." The verse for the week was: "I can do all things through Christ because He gives me strength." Philippians 4:13. The Lil' K Map Book talked about "Big listeners stop, look and listen." Kaitlynn was totally focused on the "stop" part and not the "listening" part. Dave and I joked that she needed to go for another hour of her class to get the entire message.
Our message was great. We are doing a Speaker Series this summer. Our first speaker was Steve Gillen, who gave a message on "The Good Samaritan." This definitely has me thinking of that parable in a different way. I also served on the Communion team. As newly baptized Christ-followers, the church invited all that were baptized to serve on the Communion team. I was pretty nervous about it at first, but it wasn't bad at all.

After church, we went to lunch at Chipotle - very yummy! Lime in Diet Coke is really good. It makes a good summer drink!
Kaitlynn enjoyed sucking on a lemon and tried a lime, but didn't like it.
Kaitlynn asked me to take her picture.

We made a quick visit to Ballwin Days. Once we got there, Kaitlynn didn't want to do anything. She didn't even want to ride the ponies. She did have fun chasing the ducks /geese.

One thing we have really been struggling with is how to teach Kaitlynn about strangers and the importance of staying close by us in public without scaring her. She seems to take our talks as jokes. She will ask if the stranger is going to strangle her. Basically what we tell her is that she should stay close to us because someone could take her and hurt her and that she would probably never see us or her doggies again. Any suggestions or advice?

Kaitlynn must have had a pretty vivid dream / nightmare. She fell asleep on our way to MawMaw's. When she woke up she was in a hateful mood. She said something about MawMaw putting her head in the toilet or something like that. What a dream!

At dinner, it was so funny because Dave was telling Kaitlynn a story and she said, "That could be not true."

After dinner we went to The Muny to see Beauty and the Beast. It started raining as soon as we got there. We waited for a few hours to see if the rain was going to stop, but it didn't. Kaitlynn was so upset that it was canceled.

Febreze House Party

Saturday June 26th, I hosted a Febreze House Party. I was amazed at all of the wonderful goodies Febreze and House Party sent me. I was able to give all of my guests some amazing gift bags. They were completely shocked by the generosity of the gifts received.

For most of the party, Kaitlynn and Dave were at the Mills Mall for a Kidgits event called Mini Chefs. Kaitlynn got a sucker for spinning the wheel, a zipper bag with measuring spoons, whisk and spatula, an apron and a small Strawberry Shortcake doll and DVD. She had a good time at the event.

That evening I had a horrible headache and kept having sneezing attacks. I realized I forgot to take Zyrtec for the last few days.

While watching SpongeBob, Kaitlynn told me to be quiet and "shut my lips!" She was actually trying to be polite because she was watching TV and couldn't hear it because I was talking. She had already asked me nicely / politely to be quiet. I started whispering to Dave so that I could finish my story and that's when she told me to "shut my lips!"

Ticket to the Beatles

Friday the 25th Kaitlynn, Nick and I met some moms and kiddos from church at Suson Park for a playdate. We met 3 moms (Elizabeth, Jill and Jillian). Elizabeth has 2 kids, Jill has 3 kids and Jillian has 1 kid. Kaitlynn and the other kids interacted a little. The kids had fun running around and playing on the playground while us adults got to know each other. We ate lunch and then most of us started leaving for naps and such.

That evening Kaitlynn, MawMaw, MawMaw Tommie and I went to the Zoo for Jungle Boogie. As we were heading down to pick up MawMaw and MawMaw Tommie, Kaitlynn called to let them know we were on the way. Kaitlynn told MawMaw Tommie that we had water, soda and beer for them. Then she asked her if she would drink a beer with her. I busted up laughing and told Kaitlynn she was too young to drink beer and that MawMaw Tommie doesn't drink beer. My girl is so silly! The band playing at Jungle Boogie was Ticket to the Beatles. It was really crowded. This band has drawn the biggest crowd so far.
We met up with Teri, Hayden and Quinn.

Kaitlynn had to check on the sea lion, too! He / she was doing much better. We had a fun night even though Tiger's Blood got spilled all over Kaitlynn's stroller. It's a snowcone flavor - don't worry!

The Zoo

Thursday the 24th Kaitlynn, Nick, MawMaw, MawMaw Tommie and I went to the Zoo. It was a beautiful day for a Zoo trip!

Kaitlynn was very concerned about this sick sea lion.
We saw the donkeys, giraffes, zebras, camels and big cats. Then went to the Zootenial Exhibit.

Kaitlynn played in the water fall outside of River's Edge while Nick napped.
We went through River's Edge. Kaitlynn was in amazement when she saw her reflection in the glass at Hippo Harbor.
What a great day at the Zoo!
After Nick's daddy picked him up, Kaitlynn and I went down to MawMaw's. On the way, she came up with a good idea and said, "Good idea thinking!" I love it when she puts things together like that!

All the Single Ladies

Wednesday the 23rd, Kaitlynn and Nick played outside. It was a beautiful morning. I spent the day waiting for my "new" refurbished LG VU, which didn't come. Since I upgraded in December to the LG VU, I have had nothing but trouble with it. At first it was tolerable, but then it got to where I couldn't make or take phone calls with it because my voice mail would keep dialing in. I also couldn't retrieve voice mails because the voice mail would keep calling itself over and over. Very annoying and difficult to deal with. I also had charger / battery problems and sometimes couldn't open text messages because the screen would freeze.

Kaitlynn did the cutest thing the other day. I wish I would have captured it on The Flip. She picked up her Brittney Chipmunk from Build-A-Bear and started singing along with it to "All the single ladies!" It was super cute! I have to get that on video.

Grant's Farm

Tuesday the 22nd Kaitlynn, Nick and I drove to MawMaw's. On the way there, Kaitlynn asked me if my bones were cracking. I don't know where she got that from. Then she asked if I was going to be 4 or 5. I told her I was 32. She asked again so I told her I am going to be 33. Then she told me she wants me to be a doctor like her to help her pick up the babies because they are heavy!

Kaitlynn, Nick, MawMaw, MawMaw Tommie and I went to Grant's Farm. We went early to avoid the extreme heat. It really wasn't too bad out. We left before it got too hot.
Kaitlynn fed the goats.

Kaitlynn and Nick rode the carousel.

Kaitlynn ran through the mister.

Kaitlynn and Nick pet the donkeys / ponies.

We stopped for lunch and a sno-cone. Kaitlynn loves the Tiger's Blood sno-cones!

We walked through the stables and called it a day since it was getting unbearable and the kids were ready for naps.

Graduation, Outside Play, Swim Class and Fitz's

I am so proud of my niece, Hanna! She graduated from beauty school on June 21st. Only her and another girl graduated on time. For graduating on time, she got a netbook from her school.

Kaitlynn and Nick having fun in the backyard.

After Kaitlynn put on her swimsuit, she said she looked like a ballerina! On the way to swim class, Kaitlynn asked if there were sharks in the water.

Swim lesson started with the "Popcorn" song.
They worked on floating, kicking and using a floating board.
They practiced blowing bubbles in the water, sang "Grand Old Duke of York", picked out toys from the basket (Kaitlynn picked the walrus) and the teacher showed Kaitlynn how to jump in the pool with a noodle.
Kaitlynn floating on a noodle.
They sang "Wheels on the Bus" and then went over to the shallow water where they practiced walking / crawling like an alligator.

After swim class, Dave told Kaitlynn that she did awesome. She said, "I'm not awesome! I'm a princess!" Dave told her she was an awesome princess, but she wasn't buying it. She just wants to be a princess!

We went to Fitz's for some ice cream as a special treat. Yum-O!

My Angel

On June 19th, Kaitlynn and I were looking at pictures of PawPaw Dado (my dad). She can still pick him out in pictures! She said that he is her angel and that he fed and took care of her when she was a baby. What a sweet "memory" she has of PawPaw Dado. For her to say he is her angel makes me wonder if they don't still have a "relationship." Maybe he is looking out for her and checking in on her from time to time.

Father's Day and Baptism

Sunday June 20th, we attended church. Our message was about Baptism. It was a really rockin' service!
Kaitlynn attended her class. Her Verse for the week: "I can do all things through Christ, because He gives me strength." Philippians 4:13. They learned the story of the Prodigal Son (Luke 15:11-24) - "The father showed his son BIG love!"
After service everyone was invited to have their picture taken and nail the picture to this huge cross on the church lawn. We had a family picture taken and wrote a prayer on the back of it before it was nailed to the cross.

That evening Dave, Kaitlynn, MawMaw and I headed back up to church for the Baptism Celebration. This was a very special celebration as I decided to go public (as an adult) with my choice to live my life for Christ. The church has a huge, I mean huge celebration every year for Baptism. When we arrived, we got a space around the lake for family to sit, then Dave and I went to the auditorium. In the auditorium, it was a time of getting the logistics settled, but mostly a time of prayer and reflection. Dave told me that he was very proud of me for making this decision and that my dad would be proud of me too. I really wished he could have been here for this time in my life. But maybe it's his death that has lead me to the place I am at right now. His love for Jesus and his faith were his legacy. It's what he wanted for his children more than anything.
Everyone lined up (there were more than 300 people being Baptised) in their respective groups. Amazing Grace started and ended the Baptisms. I was #19 in my group. Dave was my water witness. MawMaw, Kaitlynn, Hanna and Adam watched, took pictures and filmed as I was being Baptised. I was glad to have Patti in the water with me, as well as her husband, Russ (who is a pastor). They are very special people! It was such an amazing and awesome experience. After being Baptised and meeting up with family, Dave and I changed out of our wet clothes. The celebration was so big, they had food vendors, live music and a kids' area with bounce houses and pony rides. We ate dinner (Vivianos - yum!), listened to live music and Kaitlynn enjoyed the bounce house, slide and pony rides.
The biggest celebration of the year!

Kaitlynn sliding with these 2 girls she met. The little one does not like the idea of Kaitlynn sliding down with them. Of course, I can't blame her: Kaitlynn has her arm around the little girl's neck!

Another pony ride. The lady running the pony rides gave me her card. She told me about coming out to their farm for lessons or just pony rides. She said when kids are as talkative and outgoing as Kaitlynn (so young), they are ready for lessons. We might give it a try as the rates were very reasonable.
What an awesome day to honor our Father in heaven!
