First Swim Class

Monday, Kaitlynn started her first swim class. It's a parent and child class at Riverchase. The plan was / is for Kaitlynn and Dave to do them together. Kaitlynn, Dave, MawMaw and I went to Riverchase Monday evening extremely excited and a little nervous. We have been wanting to put Kaitlynn in swim lessons for a while, but just never got around to signing her up. It was a spontaneous thing. I called Monday morning and asked if there were any openings for the class the started that evening. Thankfully someone had just called and canceled.

We got to Riverchase and were told to go to the pool. Sounds easy enough right? Well, finding the pool wasn't the problem. Finding the right class that Kaitlynn was supposed to be in was. Dave and Kaitlynn went to 2 different classes before finding / being led to the correct one. Each time, Kaitlynn was excited to get in the water. Well, once she got to the correct class, we were about 5 minutes late and of course the class had already started. This class was further out in the water / pool than the other 2, as well. Dave grabbed Kaitlynn and rushed over to the class. Kaitlynn doesn't really like being rushed or pushed into something, so she was not happy. I was absolutely livid and ready to talk to a manager to get our money back. Kaitlynn wanted out, so Dave brought her out of the water. She ended up sitting on the ledge near her class. I was pretty mad / irritated (not at Kaitlynn or Dave). Dave got back in the water and was trying to get Kaitlynn to come in with him. Her teacher, Lauren came over and asked if Kaitlynn wanted to get in the water. She said no. I told Lauren that we had been to 2 different classes and she is a little fearful of pools. She gave Kaitlynn a walrus (bath toy) to hold. She told Kaitlynn that the walrus really wanted to get in the pool, but was too afraid. She asked Kaitlynn to take care of him. Kaitlynn said she would. She told Kaitlynn that daddy would take care of her and she could take care of walrus in the pool. Kaitlynn said OK, but then refused to get in. She actually tried to outsource her job! She tried to give Dave the walrus. Lauren came back over and asked Kaitlynn if she wanted to get in with Dave. Kaitlynn said no. Lauren asked her if she would get in with her and she did! That right there made all the confusion and disorganization worth it. I was so happy that she took the time to get Kaitlynn comfortable and that Kaitlynn felt comfortable enough with her to get in the water with her. After singing a song, Kaitlynn went to Dave in the water. They sang some more songs. After the class is open swim. Kaitlynn and Dave stayed in the pool playing. She had so much fun. She said "it's not fair" when the lifeguard blew the whistle to tell everyone to get out of the pool because it was closing.

The other thing I was happy about is that I was able to watch the class up close. I thought that I would have to be in another room watching from a glass window since Dave was going to be doing the class with her. It was great to be able to be right there and watch the lesson. Next week, I will wear my swimsuit under my clothes just in case. And then I will probably get in during open swim!

Annabelle's Birthday Party

Sunday Kaitlynn, Dave and I attended Annabelle's 4th birthday party. The party was held at a park in South County. The theme was the Wonder Pets. We ate lunch almost immediately after everyone arrived. Then it was time for the cake (which my cousin made), presents, and the pinata. It was so funny, when the candy came out of the pinata, we called for Kaitlynn to come back over and get some candy. She picked up one piece and we told her to go get some more. After saying that, I was like, "Wait, what am I saying? I should be happy that my child only grabbed one piece of candy." After getting the birthday party business out of the way, the kids were free to go to the playground. Kaitlynn had a fun time playing with Annabelle and her friends. Dave and I had a fun time watching them, chatting and holding baby Alayna (Annabelle's little sister). We hung around after everyone left to chat with Mike and Cynthia while Kaitlynn and Annabelle played. We also helped them clean up and load things in their cars.

Later, Kaitlynn played with the neighbor girls, Mya and Leah. Dave and I talked to Kris and her husband while the girls played. We are thinking of getting a membership to the subdivision pool this year. That way Kaitlynn could play with the girls, Dave and I could hang out with Kris and we could get to know more of the neighbors.

Family Picnic, Church and a Dinner Party

Saturday Dave, Kaitlynn and I attended a Retirement Center Family Picnic. This picnic had a petting zoo, pony rides, games, train ride, face painting, balloon animals and lunch.

Kaitlynn had a couple of pony rides. She loved petting the baby geese. The lady even let Kaitlynn go in the cage to play with the geese. She also pet the sheep, donkey, alpaca, rabbit, hen, calf and other pony. We rode the train (that went up and down the street). She played some games: duck pond, bowling and bean bag toss and won some prizes (sunglasses, bubbles, keychain, candy, etc). We ate lunch. Kaitlynn got her face painted (a butterfly on her cheek), but when the clown put glitter on it, it got in her eyes and she freaked out. She ended up wiping it off. It was a really hot and sticky day, so I am sure the sweat and glitter didn't feel good in her eyes!

We went to church that late afternoon / early evening. Kaitlynn said she didn't want to go, but as soon as we got there, she was ready for class. She was just tired from the picnic. When I came to get Kaitlynn after class, she was sitting at a table coloring with some other kids and one of the teachers. I think she must like hanging around the teachers, which I think is fine. She immediately told me their Bible story: Jonah got ate by a big fish and then was spit out. The memory verse for the week: "Children obey your parents" Colossians 3:20. They played in a pool / whale ball pit (among other things). She had her usual cup of hot (warm) chocolate and we had to get going.

I went to an Easy & Elegant Dinner Party at my friend Heather's. It was Heather's birthday, but she was hosting a House Party with Calphalon & Williams-Sonoma. It was a small group of us: Amanda, Ashley, Pam, Kit, and Colleen. We had so much fun chatting, drinking, eating and getting a tour of Heather's house (that her husband built). I can't wait to get together with these ladies again some time soon.

MLM Mid Rivers Mall and The Usual Suspects

Friday Kaitlynn, MawMaw and I went to Mid Rivers Mall for the MLM Playdate. I thought we were doing good by getting there 5-10 minutes early. I was wrong. The line to see Dora the Explorer was to the other end of the mall. The line to "check in" was outrageous, too. By the time we got up to the table, the kids bags were gone (given away). Bummer! We got in line to get a balloon, stickers and cookies. Of course, this is when the other parents great parenting skills starting kicking in. This one mom totally butted in front of us with her 4 kids. Seriously, what kind of message does that send / teach your children? Butting in line is rude. Just wait your freaking turn like everyone else! I usually let people know when they butt in line, but that day, I was already a little on edge (from the huge unexpected crowd), so I decided to let it slide. Actually, I was afraid I might go off the deep end and didn't want to make a scene in front of Kaitlynn. I didn't want to be THAT parent!! Anyway, Kaitlynn got a Diego sticker, a Stride Rite sticker, a pink balloon and a couple cookies. We got in line to do the pretzel rolling, but Kaitlynn had to go to the bathroom. Perfect timing too - we were next in line! Oh well! After the bathroom break, we decided to skip the pretzel rolling because the line was ridiculously long (and not moving). We decided to decorate a cookie. While waiting in line, we met up with our friends Trisha, Kylie and Ava. Kaitlynn and Kylie decorated a cookie together. While they were decorating their cookies, I was holding Kaitlynn's balloon, Kylie's balloon and some papers. After the girls got done, I went to hand Trisha Kylie's balloon and some papers and my camera dropped out of my hand, hit the mall floor and the batteries went flying. Several people brought the batteries to me as I was in shock and picking up my camera. I put the batteries back in and the screen was all fuzzy. Yep, I broke the camera! Just wonderful! We have had this one for 2 or 3 years, so I guess it is time for a new one. At that point, I was done with the playdate. It was too crowded, Dora was some little girl instead of a costumed character and I broke our camera. It was time to get some space...

and lunch (since Kids Eat Free on Fridays). Let me tell you, that wasn't much better. We ate in the food court and it took 2 hours for us to order and finally get all of the food we order. Seriously, we did not order that much - kid's meal (chicken fingers and fries), grilled cheese (3 cheese), small fry and a chicken salad. While waiting for our food, we looked through the stuff we got at the playdate - throwing away the stuff we weren't going to use. We had a lot of time to kill!

After lunch, we went shopping. Retail therapy! I got a pair of sandals and Kaitlynn got some new clothes. We also made a trip to the pet shop. Kaitlynn (and MawMaw) just had to ask to see this little teacup chihuahua. Kaitlynn did not want to give him back and left the store crying. That's always fun!

Later that evening Dave, Kaitlynn, MawMaw and I went to the Zoo for Jungle Boogie. A band called The Usual Suspects were playing. Kaitlynn fell asleep in the car and stayed asleep after we first arrived. We decided to eat dinner while waiting for her to fully wake up. After dinner we ran into our old friends Teri, Hayden and Quinn. Hanna and Adam also ended up meeting us there. We also saw our friends Emily, Christopher, Ella and Beatrice. Kaitlynn suckered MawMaw into getting her a bear from Build-A-Bear, then suckered Hanna into getting her a penguin from Build-A-Bear. Spoiled!! It was a fun evening with great music, fun company and good conversation.

On the way home from the Zoo, Kaitlynn said, "I hope I see Adam again and Hanna." MawMaw said, "Well, what about me?" Kaitlynn said, "You can go, but it's late." This kid comes up with some funny stuff. Maybe it's one of those, you had to be there kind of moments.

Kaitlynn had to sleep with Teddy and Penguin that night.

Sex and the City 2 Soundtrack Review

I received the opportunity to review the Sex and the City 2: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack recently. This soundtrack was released on May 25th and the film hit the theaters on May 27th. The soundtrack features a brand-new duet "Love is Your Color" by Grammy and Academy Award® winner Jennifer Hudson, along with global superstar, multi-platinum recording artist and three-time Grammy Award nominee Leona Lewis. The soundtrack includes a new song by platinum-selling Cee Lo and International superstar Dido also contributes an exclusive new track. Grammy, Emmy, Golden Globe, Tony and Academy Award® winner Liza Minnelli covers Beyonce’s chart-topper “Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)”. 12-time Grammy Award winner Alicia Keys performs her own new version of the Blondie classic “Rapture”. The soundtrack also features the stars of Sex and the City 2, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon, performing the Helen Reddy classic “I Am Woman.”

Here is a list of the songs on the soundtrack:
1. Alicia Keys “Rapture”
2. Dido “Everything to Lose”
3. Cee Lo “Language of Love”
4. Erykah Badu “Window Seat”
5. Natacha Atlas “Kidda”
6. Michael McGregor “Euphrates Dream”
7. Liza Minnelli “Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)”
8. Ricki-Lee "Can't Touch It"
9. Alicia Keys "Emire State of Mind (Part II) Broken Down"
10. Jennifer Hudson and Leona Lewis "Love Is Your Color"
11. Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis, Cynthia Nixon “I Am Woman”
12. Sex and the City Men’s Choir “If Ever I Would Leave You”
13. Sex and the City Men’s Choir “Sunrise, Sunset”
14. Sex and the City Men’s Choir “Till There Was You”
15. Shayna Steele, Jordan Ballard, Kamilah Marshall “Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered”
16. Liza Minnelli with Billy Stritch “Ev’ry Time We Say Goodbye”
17. Cyndi Lauper “True Colors”
18. Aaron Zigman “Divas and Dunes”

This soundtrack was very interesting. It is probably something that I wouldn't listen to again because it isn't really my "type" of music. Some of the music had a very Arabian sound to them. The only songs I liked or might relisten to would be Alicia Keys' "Rapture", Dido's "Everything to Lose", Erykah Badu's "Window Seat" and (of course) Cyndi Lauper's "True Colors". I think that most of the songs that were redone sounded so much better by the original artists. I especially did not like Liza Minnelli's version of "Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)". I also wasn't a fan of the Sex and the City Men's Choir. I haven't seen Sex and the City 2, so maybe after seeing it, that would change my perspective on the soundtrack, but I doubt it.
