Friday, December 10th, we got more make up bags (that I had made with Kaitlynn's pictures on them) in the mail. Not sure why we got the extra ones, but it was a cool surprise! Dave, Kaitlynn, MawMaw and I met Tia, Mike, Annabelle and Alayna at Subway for dinner and then went to the Zoo for Wild Lights. We met Teri, Hayden and Quinn there. Kaitlynn and Annabelle had a good time decorating cookies. We walked around and looked at the lights. The kids rode the carousel with MawMaw. I think 1 person riding the carousel with 4 kids was too much. After the ride the scariest thing ever happened. No one knew where Kaitlynn was. She must have ran off in a different direction as they were coming out of the gate for the carousel. It was really dark out and hard to see, let alone trying to search for someone, especially with there being some many places to get lost or hide at the Zoo. It's just a huge place. I can't even come up with the words to say what was going through my head as I was trying to stay calm while looking for her. I just kept praying to God to give me the strength to know what to do and to find her and most importantly to keep her safe. After a second or two of surveying the scene and asking the group if they saw her, I ran to the nearest food place and told them I had a lost child. They called security and as I was giving security a description, someone (I can't remember if it was Dave or who) said they found Kaitlynn. Quinn actually looked over and told Teri she saw Kaitlynn. Funny thing is she was right by us apparently the whole time. Thank God! I know God's hand was all over the situation and I know He kept her safe. Even as I recount the story, my heart gets heavy and I just can't imagine what I would have done if the situation would have ended differently. I am so extremely thankful that she went back to the area where we were originally (when we got in line for the carousel) and am so thankful that she was safe the entire time. She didn't even realize we didn't know where she was and I was grateful for that because I didn't want her to be scared. I'm done reliving the scariest, most horrible moments of my life and I hope I never have to have that feeling / be in that situation again.
Saturday, the 11th, Dave, Kaitlynn and I went to Breakfast with Santa at Riverchase. We ran into Jess, Helen and Jess' parents. It was great to get a table with them and hang out with them. The breakfast was catered by Andres. Santa and Mrs. Claus came out and visited with each table for a little while after breakfast and before pictures.
We were going to go to St. Charles' Christmas Traditions Parade but decided against it because it was supposed to rain. It was a little wet out and it was probably a good decision not to go.
Dave got free tickets for the Blues hockey game, so we picked up my brother Jeff and went to the game. Kaitlynn enjoyed it and did really well in the seats.
Kaitlynn made some pictures for Dave and me.
Sunday, the 12th, we went to church even though it was snowy and icy. Our message was about God's promise to us and how He set the stage for the arrival of His Son many years before with a simple and profound promise, a promise that touched history forever.
In Kaitlynn's class, she learned "God wants us to celebrate together! Baby Jesus is Born" Luke 2:1-7. They learned that God loves us so much He gave us baby Jesus.
After church, Kaitlynn and I stayed home and rested the rest of the day. Kaitlynn had hot chocolate, we worked on puzzles, did dishes and made chili for dinner.
Later, that evening, I had contacted the girl I was babysitting for because last week was the last week I watched her child. She was supposed to bring the money she owed me on Friday. She claimed she put the money in my mailbox (without telling me that's what she was going to do). I told her I didn't find any money in my mailbox. She went bonkers on me and basically decided to screw me out of the money. i can't believe someone would stoop that low in regards to someone who watched their child for them. I value my child and anyone who takes care of her too much to do that to anyone. Thankfully, she only owed me for a few hours, so it wasn't too much of a loss.
