13 Weeks

PhotobucketFriday, January 28th, marked 13 weeks and the end of the First Trimester. According to Babycenter, fingerprints have formed on the baby's tiny fingertips, the veins and organs are clearly visible through his/her still-thin skin, and the body is starting to catch up with his/her head — which makes up just a third of the body size now. The baby is almost 3 inches long (the size of a medium shrimp) and weighs nearly an ounce. Kaitlynn loves looking at the weekly BabyCenter update on the baby. I even showed her a few of her ultrasound pics. She also likes looking at the pics in the book my ob gave me. It is so neat to see her want to be so involved. She frequently asks me "how my baby is doing." She is going to be such a wonderful big sister! I registered Kaitlynn for another year of preschool in the Fall. Kaitlynn continued taking her eyedrops and I continued taking the prescribed headache medicine. The medicine was helping. I had to take it every 4 hours Thursday, but by Friday, I was able to manage just by taking a few doses. I joined Zulily and Groupon. What cool sites and amazing deals! I can't believe I hadn't joined previously. I found out a friend who is pregnant with twins was admitted into the hospital because the babies thought they were ready to be born just into about 24 weeks. How scary and frightening for her and her family. Kaitlynn, MawMaw and I went shopping to start looking at maternity clothes. My maternity clothes from Kaitlynn are all way too big. I don't need them right now, with the exception of some shirts because some of my regular shirts are too short. I'm not into wearing crop tops!! Trying on maternity clothes sure was an eye opener. Those shirts really accentuate the belly! This pregnancy all my weight gain is strictly in the tummy and no where else. With Kaitlynn, I gained weight all over. Now that I think back, I was probably mainly swollen. Saturday, the 29th, Kaitlynn had swim class. Pregnancy brain has been bad this week. I left Kaitlynn's boots on the deck by my chair at swim class. I remembered them after she got out of the shower in the locker room and thankfully they were still there. Earlier in the week, I was looking for the timer on the stove, which we threw away months ago and then I forgot how to write out a check. Kaitlynn continued taking her eye drops. I only took my headache medicine once. We attended evening church service. We continued our series "Life Audacious" on Phillipians and took a glimpse into the amazing hope that kept Paul going. PhotobucketPhotobucketKaitlynn attended her class in which they learned "Jesus loves us all the time." The heard the story of Jesus and his disciples (Luke 5-6, Matthew 5 and 26:20-30). Sunday, the 30th, we went to the Zoo for the Penguin Parade. It was cool getting to see the new baby leopard, too.
Before leaving the Zoo, my headache came back and with a vengence. I felt so nauseaus, too. It was horrible. I ended up taking the full dose every 4 hours the rest of the day. Monday, the 31st, my ob's office called about getting results of my thyroid test from my endo (which had called on the 28th and said everything was good). I told the nurse about how I was responding to the headache medicine and how I had a really bad headache on the 30th that wouldn't go away until after I went to bed. She talked to the ob and said as long as the medicine is managing the headaches, it should be OK. She also said I might need to add a few sodas to my daily routine to see if that helps manage them, even though the med has caffeine in it. Kaitlynn had a great dental check up! I am always so worried since that check up last year when the cavities were found. I don't want her or us to have to go through another dental procedure again! PhotobucketPhotobucket Thankfully the dental appointment was in the morning and was before the ice storm hit. It was just sleeting and getting a little slick out. We decided to make a quick grocery shopping trip and then cancel our plans for the rest of the day and just stay home. It was the perfect day for Kaitlynn to work on her Valentine's cards. I finally started writing in Kaitlynn's baby book - 4 years later. I had written things on a sheet of paper and stuck the paper in the baby book to transfer later and never did. I also updated her totsite from June 2008 to August 2010. I also started a totsite for the new baby. PhotobucketI ordered Kaitlynn's Valentine's photo cards and couldn't wait to get them. They are absolutely adorable! My Sacred Romance class was canceled due to the weather. Kaitlynn took her eye drops. I had to take a few doses of my headache medicine that morning and was fine the rest of the day. Before going to bed, we were alerted that Kaitlynn didn't have preschool the next day due to the weather.

19th Week of Dance and 22nd Week of Preschool

Tuesday, January 25th, Kaitlynn had dance class. It was observation week, so Dave went with us. Photobucket After dance, we went home and ate lunch and then got ready for preschool. We packed snack (strawberry banana yogurt and an apple) in her lunch box and left for school. PhotobucketThe daily schedule said they read "Time to Sleep," explored a new light table borrowed from another classroom, used tracing paper at the project table, played in the gym and in music sang / listened to "A Chubby Little Snowman." My headache continued as nothing Dave brought home from Monday night helped / eased it. Wednesday, the 26th, my brother texted me early in the morning saying that he was taking my mom to the ER. Thankfully it ended up being nothing and they were home 5 hours later. She just had to rest and stay home from work. Kaitlynn prepared for preschool and packed her snack (peach yogurt and an apple). While she was in preschool, we picked up the other car (finally) from the shop. It was done on Tuesday, but they wouldn't let us pay over the phone so we had to wait until Wednesday to pick it up. When I picked Kaitlynn up from preschool, her teacher said she was tired. Kaitlynn was up late the night before and woke up at 8AM. The daily schedule said they read "Bear Snores On," played a numeral memory game, used color pencils to press designs into heavy foil, played in the gym and in music sang / listened to "Lettercise." Photobucket Kaitlynn fell asleep in the car on the way home from school. I picked up an early dinner for us from Burger King. I was on a veggie whopper kick. Hey, it's what the baby wanted!!!! Kaitlynn napped for 3 hours. My headache came back, too. Thursday, the 27th, my headache was still there, so I called the ob's office. I was also running a bit of a low grade fever. They prescribed a medication for me and said that the headaches are common at this point in pregnancy due to a flux in hormones. I was to take 1-2 tablets every 4 hours of this medication. They said if the medication doesn't help, I will need to come in to be evaluated. Kaitlynn got ready for preschool and we packed her snack (vanilla yogurt and sun chips). After I dropped her off at school, I picked up the headache medicine. I was afraid to take the medication because the pharmacy wouldn't give me the medicine without talking to a pharmacist first. The pharmacist said this medication hasn't been tested on pregnant women and the unborn baby and so it should only be taken as a last resort. It really had me freaked out. I called Dave because I refused to take it at first. He talked me into it and reminded me that we both trust my ob and believe she would never prescribe me anything that would harm our baby. Plus having a headache for at least 5 days with no relief in site was really taking a toll and me and making everyday life difficult. I decided to take the medication. When taking it for the first time, I wasn't supposed to drive or anything until I knew how I reacted to the medication. I only took 1 tablet because I figured I should take the smallest dose possible. Of course, about 15 minutes after I took the medicine, Kaitlynn's school called. It was the school nurse. Kaitlynn was in her office with a red eye (right eye). She thought it might be pink eye or a cold in her eye and said I should come pick her up. Kaitlynn had pink eye before (like back in the Fall), so I still had a refill on eye drops from then. I worriedly got in the car to go pick her up because there was no one else to pick her up. Now just to clarifly, if I felt woozy or anything (from the medication), I would not have drove home with her (or for that matter, drove at all). Anyway, I talked to the nurse about the refill and she suggested that instead of taking Kaitlynn in to see the pediatrician, just using the eye drops through out the weekend and only calling if it didn't get any better. So that's what I did. Kaitlynn's eye was just a little red and since we had started the eye drops and she wasn't feeling ill, we picked up MawMaw and ran a few errands.

Review of Disney On Ice: Mickey & Minnie's Magical Journey

Thursday, March 17th, we attended opening night of Disney On Ice: Mickey & Minnie's Magical Journey at Scottrade Center. It was truly a destination for make believe!
Kaitlynn wore her Ariel, The Little Mermaid costume. The show began with Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck and Daisy Duck. Goofy wasn't too far behind. They introduced each of the "mini shows." The first was The Lion King. Simba, Nala, Pumba and Timon all made appearances as we visited the Pride Lands. Next up was Sebastian to begin The Little Mermaid. Ariel's sisters, Flounder, Ursela and Eric all made appearances. This was probably Kaitlynn's and my favorite part of the evening! Kaitlynn said her favorite part of the show was Ariel and the fish. Beautiful dancing and underwater scenes! The first half of the show ended with Lilo & Stitch. Now, we did really enjoy the Elvis Presley songs and were dancing up a storm in our seats. I forgot how many Elvis songs were in that movie. After intermission and to start the last part of the show Tinker Bell began Peter Pan. This was Dave's favorite part of the show. The pirate ship was pretty amazing and that big crocodile too!

We really enjoyed this magical journey! You still have a chance to travel to these magical destinations so don't miss out. Reserve your seats today at Ticketmaster for the Friday, Saturday or Sunday show (18th-20th). Tickets for the show start at $13 and kid's tickets for the Saturday show are just $10.

12 Weeks

Friday, January 21st marked 12 weeks. According to Babycenter, the most dramatic development this week: reflexes. Your baby's fingers will soon begin to open and close, the toes will curl, the eye muscles will clench, and the mouth will make sucking movements. In fact, if you prod your abdomen, your baby will squirm in response, although you won't be able to feel it. The intestines, which have grown so fast that they protrude into the umbilical cord, will start to move into the abdominal cavity about now, and the kidneys will begin excreting urine into the bladder. Meanwhile, nerve cells are multiplying rapidly, and in your baby's brain, synapses are forming furiously. The face looks unquestionably human: The eyes have moved from the sides to the front of the head, and the ears are right where they should be. From crown to rump, your baby is just over 2 inches long (about the size of a lime) and weighs half an ounce.

Kaitlynn and I played in the snow for a little while.

We went to MawMaw's to take her to an appointment. Kaitlynn napped in the car. Dave met us at MawMaw's. We went to the mall, ate dinner, walked around and Kaitlynn played in the play area. When we got back to MawMaw's, Dave's car wouldn't start. Later that evening, Kaitlynn had diarrhea and was up a lot of the night.

Saturday, the 22nd, Kaitlynn was feeling better, so she went to swim class. After swim class, she took a shower in the locker room. I could not get her out of the shower. She was having too much fun! Afterwards we ate lunch and met Tia, Annabelle and Alayna at McDonald's for the girls to play. When we came home, I took a nap because I was just so exhausted.

Sunday, the 23rd, we missed church because we were all tired and Kaitlynn's diarrhea came back the night before. Later we went to MawMaw's to try to get the car started, but it still wouldn't start.

Monday, the 24th, I had a doctor's appointment. I had to miss Sacred Romance class since we only had the 1 car. I hated missing, but it just wasn't an option to go. At this point, I had a headache for 2 days and couldn't get rid of it. Dave brought gatorade, caffeine soda and peanut m&ms home for me so I could see if any of that would get rid of the headache.
PhotobucketI ordered Kaitlynn's Valentine's Cards and can't wait to get them! So cute!

18th Week of Dance and 21st Week of Preschool

Tuesday, January 18th, Kaitlynn attended dance class. Miss Julie gave Kaitlynn a thank you card for the Thanksgiving goodies and Christmas gifts. After dance, we came home, had lunch and got ready for preschool. Kaitlynn chose an apple and raisins for her snack.
PhotobucketKaitlynn made this at preschool!

Wednesday, the 19th, Kaitlynn prepared for preschool and packed her snack (cheez-its and 2 oatmeal cookies).
The daily schedule said they created a Venn diagram to compare and contrast 2 versions of "Goldilocks and the 3 Bears," made letters using Wikki-sticks at the project table, played a giant bear board game using stuffed animals as pawns, played in the gym and in music listened to "Bean Bag Boogie."
PhotobucketPhotobucket
After preschool, Kaitlynn took a nap in the car, while driving to MawMaw's to take her to an appointment. We ate dinner and went to the grocery store because there was a Winter Weather Advisory that evening and we received snow.

Thursday, the 20th, school was called off due to the snow.

11 Weeks, Swim Class and Date Night

Friday, January 14th, I was 11 weeks pregnant. According to Babycenter, the baby, just over 1 1/2 inches long and about the size of a fig, is now almost fully formed. The hands will soon open and close into fists, tiny tooth buds are beginning to appear under the gums, and some of the bones are beginning to harden. The baby's already busy kicking and stretching, and his/her tiny movements are so effortless they look like water ballet. These movements will become more frequent as the body grows and becomes more developed and functional. You won't feel your baby's acrobatics for another month or two — nor will you notice the hiccupping that may be happening now that the diaphragm is forming.
Weekly pregnancy pic.

I also took a photo shoot of Kaitlynn for Valentine's photo cards. The first 8 pictures are with her "This Little Princess is Going to be a Big Sister!" shirt / outfit, since we needed to get some good ones with her wearing that. The other 3 are in her Valentine's outfit.

We made the announcement of our pregnancy to the facebook world!

We went to MawMaw's house and took her to an appointment. While she was at the appointment, Kaitlynn and I went to Yo My Goodness for some frozen yogurt. Yummy! Later, Dave met us for dinner at Pasta House.
We went to Walgreens and Kaitlynn talked MawMaw into buying her a doctor's kit. Kaitlynn needed it for the new baby!

Saturday, the 15th, Kaitlynn had her level II / Goldfish swim class. She did great! We took naps afterwards. Later Kaitlynn went to MawMaw's so Dave and I could have a date night. We haven't had a date night since our anniversary in November, unless you count the almost 2 day stay at the hospital in December! We went to Casa Gallardo for dinner and then to see "Little Fockers." We both really liked the movie. It was hilarious!

Before bed, we read Phillipians to prepare for a new series starting at church this weekend.

It seems a lot of my friends are interested / are going to see the NKOTBSB tour. I was really into the NKOTB, but I have no interest in going to this concert. Am I alone in this? Maybe I am just getting old!

Sunday, the 16th, we attended church. We started a new series, Life Audacious, that will unpack Paul's letter to the Phillipians.
In Kaitlynn's class, they learned that "Jesus loves us all the time." They heard the story of Jesus and his disciples (Luke 5-6, Matthew 5 and 26:20-30).

After church, I cleaned / organized the kitchen table, closet and counter and the master bedroom.

Monday, the 17th, Kaitlynn attended a MLM Playdate at Olympiad. She had so much fun! Afterwards, she asked if she could do gymnastics.
PhotobucketPhotobucket

We ate lunch, then went to MawMaw's to take her to an appointment. While MawMaw was in the appointment, we went to Yo My Goodness for frozen yogurt.

Dave watched Kaitlynn so I could attend my Sacred Romance class at church. I started reading the first few chapters of "The Sacred Romance" and kind of felt like I was missing something or not understanding something, but the class really helped clear that up. I am really looking forward to getting to know the ladies at my table and unpacking "The Sacred Romance."

20th Week of Preschool

Tuesday, January 11th, Kaitlynn woke up at 5:40AM. Way too early for me and so not her usual time of waking up. She watched the Disney channel and then played in the living room with her toys. Dance class was canceled due to the snow. Preschool was also canceled. Kaitlynn watched Spongebob, wrestled, rested while watching some Nickelodeon and took a nap all before lunch.

Kaitlynn did attend a Dance make up class that evening (they opened for the evening classes). She was making up the class she missed the previous week. This class was totally different than Kaitlynn's regular class. It was with a different teacher. I have to say, Kaitlynn really tried. She did great for not attending a dance class since December 21st and coming back to something completely different. I am so glad she has that attitude of giving news things a try! I think I was more overwhelmed with the class being different than Kaitlynn. I spend the entire class texting Dave about it. I was shocked that they even did the princess dance differently. How confusing for Kaitlynn! I think that the teacher could have been a little more gracious or helpful to Kaitlynn since the class was completely different and she is only 3 1/2 years old. Kaitlynn kept trying to socialize with the other girls too but they had already formed their clique. It's amazing (sad) that kids have adapted that behavior at 3 and 4 years old already.

We came home and played in the snow. Kaitlynn had hot chocolate afterwards. We made dinner and played Memory (as a family) 3 times and then Chutes and Ladders.
Kaitlynn loves making snow angels. It's almost always 1 of the first things she does when she gets out in the snow.

Wednesday, the 12th, Kaitlynn got ready for preschool and packed her snack (popcorn and raisins). Kaitlynn had a good day. The daily schedule said they acted out the story of "Goldilocks and the 3 Bears," painted with tempera cakes, created snowflakes using coffee filters, played in the gym and in music sang / listened to "Make Friends With a Beanbag."
family picture that Kaitlynn made previously. It was hanging in the classroom, but they got to bring them home.
After school, Kaitlynn took a nap in the car. We went to MawMaw's because she had to go to an appointment. Then we had dinner at Bread Co. Kaitlynn loves the french onion soup and asks for "Company" frequently!

Thursday, the 13th, I met my women's group for lunch and to discuss chapter 2 of "I Quit." I told the 4 women that were at lunch that we were expecting. Dave got Kaitlynn ready for preschool, packed snack (apple and popcorn) and took her. Dave and I met for lunch.

The daily schedule at preschool said they did yoga and learned a new pose - lying twist, played a Goldilocks and the 3 Bears board game, sorted by color and size, played in the gym and in music had a "Bean Bag Parade." Another Scholastics book order came home and is due by the end of the month. I am always so excited to look at the catalogs!

That evening Kaitlynn started telling people that "mommy has a baby in her tummy. She has to drink lots of water so the baby will grow big like me."

1st Level 2 Swim Class

Saturday, January 8th Kaitlynn advanced to Level 2 Swimming / Goldfish level! I am so proud of my girl because she did great!
We saw Ms. Lauren, her Parent/Tot swim instructor and we turned in the contract for her birthday party. Kaitlynn had fun playing in the Rainforest jungle gym.

We went to Babies R Us for a baby shower. It wasn't as organized or as good as I remember it being when we went when I was pregnant with Kaitlynn.

We ate lunch and then went to MawMaw's. Kaitlynn, MawMaw and I went to get manis and pedis done. A girls day at the salon!

Sunday, the 9th we went to church. We continued in our Change series. We talked about how to become more like God.
In Kaitlynn's class, they learned "Jesus loves us all the time." They heard the story Jesus and the disciples (Luke 5-6, Matthew 5 and 26:20-30). It was funny when I picked Kaitlynn up from her, one of the kid volunteers handed us the magnet and Kaitlynn said "Fruit by the foot!" Another parent and I cracked up! Silly girl!

Monday, the 10th I was supposed to start a women's class at church, Sacred Romance, but it was canceled due to a winter weather advisory. Dave, Kaitlynn and I went to dinner with MawMaw, Hanna, Adam and Brandon. We didn't get much snow.

19th Week of Preschool

Wednesday, January 5th I was running a low grade fever and felt horrible. Kaitlynn's winter break was over, so she prepared for preschool and we packed her snack (cheez-its and raisins). Kaitlynn received Thank You cards for the Christmas gifts she gave to her teachers. The daily schedule said they read "Goldilocks and the 3 Bears," did snow painting, made paper bag puppets, sorted pom-poms, used bear cookie cutters with the playdough, went outside and in music had an "All Request" Wednesday.

Thursday, the 6th I was miserable - vomiting, diarrhea and a fever (and heartburn, but I know that's not related to the stomach bug). I guess I got the bug Kaitlynn had on Monday. Thankfully it only lasted about 24 hours. Another thing I was thankful for was that Dave was able to take Kaitlynn to preschool and pick her up. For snack, she chose apple and cheez-its (again). The Healthy Kids Newsletter was sent out and addressed Childhood Obesity. The daily schedule said they reread "Goldilocks and the 3 Bears." retold the story by using puppets at the dollhouse, pretended to mix and stir porridge at the water table, played in the gym and in music sang / listened to "Build a Snowman."

Friday, the 7th I felt better. I was 10 weeks pregnant at that point. According to Babycenter, the baby is barely the size of a kumquat — a little over an inch or so long, crown to bottom — and weighs less than a quarter of an ounce, and has now completed the most critical portion of development. This is the beginning of the so-called fetal period, a time when the tissues and organs in his body rapidly grow and mature. The baby's swallowing fluid and kicking up a storm. Vital organs — including kidneys, intestines, brain, and liver (now making red blood cells in place of the disappearing yolk sac) — are in place and starting to function, though they'll continue to develop throughout your pregnancy. Tiny nails forming on fingers and toes (no more webbing) and peach-fuzz hair beginning to grow on tender skin. The baby's limbs can bend now. Hands are flexed at the wrist and meet over his/her heart, and his/her feet may be long enough to meet in front of the baby's body. The outline of the spine is clearly visible through translucent skin, and spinal nerves are beginning to stretch out from the spinal cord. The baby's forehead temporarily bulges with his/her developing brain and sits very high on the head, which measures half the length of the body. From crown to rump, the baby's about 1 1/4 inches long.

Kaitlynn and I went to MawMaw's to take her to an appointment. Kaitlynn was not in a good mood and was giving me a hard time at the appointment. She was so tired! We went to TGI Friday's for dinner. I think I've created a monster- Kaitlynn was upset that she couldn't get her nails painted at the nail shop because they were closed! MawMaw and I told her we might be able to get our nails done after running an errand if the salon was still open. It wasn't and she was very disappointed.

On the way home, Kaitlynn asked if she had a baby in her stomach too. I told her no. She asked why because she wants a baby in her stomach. I told her she had to be married 1st. She asked why. I told her because God wants us to be married first. Such a smart girl!

Not sure if I wrote about this, but we told Kaitlynn about the baby right after I talked with her teacher in December. We basically told her that I had a baby in my tummy / stomach and showed her the ultrasound pictures. She asked how the baby got in my tummy and quickly answered herself by asking if I ate something to get the baby in there. Before we could answer, she asked me to open my mouth and said she could see the baby down my throat. OK, we will go with that for now!
